Is there anything I can do (electronically) to get a few more horses out of my 1991 F-350 w/460 engine? It is used mainly to tow my 4x4, but it needs a bit more power. Does this engine have an upgradable chip?

Only thing that's going to help is getting more air into the motor. Consider porting the intake side, maybe using some undercut valves, etc.

Randall Thomas did a decent writeup HERE (http://performanceunlimited.com/projectmpg/results.html)

Consider a K&N FIPK, and a tuneup including new spark plugs. Also a new hi performance ignition coil with 8mm plug wires.

replace your fuel pressure reg. with an adjustable one. Then trun it up a couple pounds. This will make your 24# injectors act like 26#. Bump up your timing 1-2 deg. Air filter, intake spacer, throtle body, cam, ect. Being that you don't have MAF, everything you do you will have to make other adjustments.

But the easiest is to up a little fuel, and timing. Note if you do this you will have to run better gas.

whare do I get this adjustable regulator at ?

sounds like a great idea,

ok what I did was to add a MSD system with in the
cab timeing adjustment.

That way I only adjust the timeing when the power
is needed. and also can adjust it for better
gas milage when not towing.

It works good.

On most 460s the timing is retarded on the timing gear. You can buy a timing gear for a '71 460 Police interseptor at most performance shops that will fix this. Changing it is just a matter of pulling the water pump, timing cover and timing chain set.

Disclaimer: I don't know how this would work on a computer controlled engine. I have done it on several carburated motors and considered it to be an excellent modification.

Same here, done to carbed 460s. The timing chain is from any 460/429 pre 72. It puts the cam at 0* instead of 8* retarded.

Not sure if a 5.0 reg will fit the 460 fuel rail, but I would call any stang place and see what they know about them being a bolt on item.
