mom has a 92Xcab 4x4 350, today the heater hose that goes from core to the back of the intake manifold goes south, wierd part is, it looks glued into the intake, and it broke there. WTF? going to the dealer tomorrow to see what's up with it, unless you guys have seen this before.

They use a quick connect fitting at that location to make it nice and easy to connect for the monkey on the assembly line. Those quick connects are known to corrode, leak and break easily. The best thing to do is to eliminate the quick connect and use a regular hose barb screwed into the intake. Then just replace the special (read, expensive) hose assembly with a normal hose and normal hose clamps. Be careful when you are trying to get the hose off at the heater core connection at the firewall, as the tubes on the heater core are plastic, and they break real easily. Ask me how I know.

Thank you, so the hole in the intake is threaded?

THANK YOU, I see it has threads now, they [GM] put some kind of sealer on the threads so I need a tap now:rolleyes: I bought that fitting $6.99 and it has steel or aluminum threads like GM should have used! Damn!

Thanks again for the help. I got the new part with the threads made of metal or aluminum, not plastic:rolleyes: and a 1/2 NPT tap, and a real small wire wheel for the dremal tool, and just barly got all the old cruddy plastic out of the threads and retapped the hole. Dam I don't belive that GM is so hard up for $ that they stoop to making this garbage just to get repair buissness!.all the auto parts stores were familer with the problem, so it's a real common thing. Also they make 2 sizes, and of course........I got the wrong one the 1st time round:rolleyes: It's all fixed now! here are some pics:D http://pics.montypics.com/SeaBass44/2003-03-10/img_0001.jpg http://pics.montypics.com/SeaBass44/2003-03-10/img_0002.jpg

Ford is putting cheap chinese bearings in their present day F350s with the 10.25s.
Its not about making money in the repairs, its about saving money on the production line in both parts and labor.

Yup:) I almost cut the damn thing....had the knife in hand:eek: thought, I'll bet it will be a pain to adapt this 1" or so hose to a 1/2"-3/4" barb, so I'll check on that fitting 1st:D Lucky me!!
