ok, here is the deal. My GF is looking for her first 4x4. She is considering a '67 scout with 4cyl. My question concerns the engine and parts avalibility. How good is the 4-cyl? I know it is the half-a-v8 engine IHC used many years. Can a IHC V-8 be swapped in later. Are the parts for the '67 (scout 80?) still out there? I know there is a dedicated network of Scout Enthusiests out there but I'm ignorent of how wide spread it is compared to say Early Bronco or LandCruisers. What later (stronger) axles are a bolt in swap? Anybody make Lift kits or is everything piece together? Thanks for listening to a Ford nut invading your space.

Did you search?

Thanks, I did search and found some answers but still haven't found info on lifts. Every reference I've found talks about swaping later SII springs or T-all springs. I assume nobody makes springs new/aftermarket. Any opinions on the merits of this stock '67 800 as a good starting point for wheelin'

There was a topic on building an 80 not too long ago. Mr Scout sells lift springs for the 80/800. You can also use CJ springs, but they don't work well in the front due to weight.

Thanks, The only other question is what areas on the 800 are prone to rusting?

Specific rust area's on the 80/800 series are the bottom/front section of the rear quarter panels, and the rockers. My 80 had problems on the inside of the bed, but I dunno if this is a normal problem or rig specific.

BTW, the 80/800 buildup post can be found here (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8587)
