I have a 1985 4x4 Ford Ranger (obvisously), long bed, standard cab, dual tank, 2.8l with a C5. I will be swaping in a 1990 2.9L FI very soon, i need to know:

1) PRE 1988 FI RANGERS, ARE THE FUEL TANKS THE SAME AS THE CARBURATED FUEL TANKS? DUE TO THE FUEL RESUVOR AND DUAL FUEL PUMPS?
[FUEL PUMP IN GAS TANK -- TO -- RESURVAUR/FILTER --TO-- HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP]

2) ARE ALL QUICK DISCO FI FUEL LINES THE SAME? EXAMPLE:
-WILL A 2.3L FI FUEL LINES MATE TO THAT OF A 2.9L FI FUEL LINES?
-CAN I USE A 2.3L FUEL LINE/PUMP SYSTEM FOR MY 2.9L FI?
(I WOULD LIKE TO KEEP MY DUAL TANKS or SAME FACTORY SETUP)

3)C5 KICKDOWN, ANYONE DONE A 2.9L -TO- C5? It has a ROD "Z" SHAPE, and not a cable, if you or you know someone who has hooked this up please let me know.

4)BEORE THE 2.9L GETS DROPPED IN, WHHAT DO YOU ALL SUGGEST I DO AS FOR PRE-INSTALL REPAIR OR MAINTAINANCE? ANY "KNOWN" EZ FIX PROBLEMS I CAN TACKLE BEFOR IT IS INSTALLED?

5) RV CAM - WHERE DO I GET ONE? HAVE YOU DONE ONE? WHAT ARE THE IMPROVEMENTS? IS IT WORTH IT?

6) K/N - CALIFORNIA SMOG LEGAL? CAN I MOD MY OWN K/N CONE TO BE CA. LEGAL?

7)ISNSTRUMENT PANEL, ANY DIFFERENCES I SHOULD BE AWARE OF? LIKE A HIGHER OHMS READING WITH THE 2.9L INSTRUMENTS V/S 2.8L ?

8) HOW MUCH ARE CATTLETTIC CONVERTERS? (BOLT IN PREFERABLE)

9) BEST "SOUNDING" EXAUST / MUFFLER? NO RICE SOUND, WANT THROAT'Y, V8 SOUND, BORLA?
-WHAT ABOUT RUNNING A DUAL GLAS PACKS? TO MAKE ONE LONG PORT OF GLAS PACK MUFFLERS?

10) WHAT WAS YOUR BEST 2.9L MOD?

11) WHAT WAS YOUR BEST / INEXPENSIVE 2.9L MOD?

12) K/N, MSD, RV CAM --- IS THIS A GOOD OFFROAD PREFORMANCE ENHANCEMENT?

13) ANY AND ALL INFORMATION, COMENTS, AND BS IS WELCOME !!! THANX YALL!

If you have a little money laying around, swap in a 302. You have the c-5. Get any c-4, pinto are great better VB, bigger clutch basket. Swap in tail shaft, c-5/4, interchangable. buy motor mounts and headers. Done. Easy swap, and you'll have to love it.

Im sick like ack :barf: of 302's! I dont need another gass guzzling waste of time and money project. The 2.9l is a 100% COMPLETE DIRECT SWAP for me. Gets 15/20MPG, 170hp 190FTLBS Tq, if setup properly. People need to learn, its 25% engine 75% gearing. I dont mean to ragg on you, just dont understand the BIG 302 boo hooo, smooo fooo, snafooo.

But you will still have a 2.9 a little better then the 2.8, but still not the best design ever. I personaly have a bunch of 302s laying around and 2 with EFI. Also I play in the deep nasty mud, as well as everything else. If you don't go into the mud you don't need the motor. Also if you have the 2.9 go for it. If it was me and had nothing to start with, I would have to opt for the v8. Also I never had one get less the 15mpg.
