: How to repair hole in plastic GAS Tank???
SMART ASS 11-11-2001, 07:11 PM Doing an engine swap, and got a gas tank and fuel pump/send assembly fom pick and pull, the put holes in the gas tank to drain the fuel, any way i can repair the holes? they are no larger than a dime, their are three holes.
Thanx... :usa:
SeaBass44 11-11-2001, 07:19 PM Go to kragens ect, look where the JB weld is and find the clay in a round tube, you kned it up and look for the stuff that says gas proof, use under water, batt acid ect. clean tank with laquer thinner and rough up with rough 36 grit or rougher or a file then clean again and apply. how much did they charge for tyanks they put holes in? do they di the same with oil pand there? they don't do it here.
Ever seen one of the add-on drain kits you can add to an auto tranny pan? I bet you can get one of those to work in there.
If not, I would suggest either a plastic welding kit, or using a bolt with some washers and rubber gasket material to try to seal it that way.
SMART ASS 11-11-2001, 07:54 PM I got the whole assembly:
GAS TANK
HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP (IN GAS TANK)
FUEL LINES (ALL)
ELECTRICAL WIRING HARNESS TO UEL PUMP (ALL)
CHARCOAL CANISTER
AND ALL FUEL RETRN LINES
For 45$ :D
I was thinking good O'l JB WELD, didnt know if it would really work in this situation.
The gas tank is from an 89 Ford Ranger 2.9l

I agree but, I would add a body washer top and bottom with a bolt to secure it. It may also be easier to find a tank without holes.
whitey 11-11-2001, 09:24 PM i couldn't find anything that would work for any length of time! finally i just threw down the hundred bones and got a new one. just a big headache:smokin:
SMART ASS 11-11-2001, 09:32 PM I'll look into that, nothing worse that having to drop a tank on the trail when its full, when you could drain it (into a holding tank).
:skull: :rasta:

brector 11-12-2001, 05:38 AM I put a good size hole in my gas tank on the last run I was on. I just drained the tank - and then went to autozone and got this little kit. It was kinda like what the first post said - a clay type material that was made for repairing gas tanks. I just kneded it into a cone shape and then pushed it into the hole. Then I flattened the excess. It's been on for about 6 months and hasn't leaked yet! :D:D:D

I carry it in my trail kit. It's the only stuff I found that works on batt acid.Fixed mine.
Just replace the tank before that crap falls out and you explode. :nuke: :nuke: :nuke:
ranger 11-13-2001, 03:36 PM The putty they are talking about is an epoxy. It is a permanant fix. Works good, last long time. I have a tube of it at home, called Pig Putty, just for those trail repairs..:skull:
SMART ASS 11-13-2001, 03:42 PM Nope, its called quick steel, its about the diameter of a nickle, aproxx 4" long, grey crap, smells like 100hobo's and 10 year old wet puz. But gawd dam it works, and for like less than 5$ it was well worth it.
I used to be an avid JB weld user, and still will be, but this stuff dosnt get runny like JB Weld, its a pasty blaydough like compund.
we'll see how it holds :D :D :D
