I have a 71 FJ-40 that i am swaping a 351W and a NP435 into. The engine is out of a 83 LTD and the trany is out of a F250(not sure what year). The LTD has an automatic trany in it so i will need a new flywheel and a clutch. My question is which flywheel, clutch and throw-out bering do i need. I know that ford used 10 and 11 inch clutches in the 80s and i was curious if the flywheels interchange from 10 to 11 inch clutches.
Thanks
Michael

I believe that all the flywheels have both set of holes already in them. I forget what years the balance changes. I think one switch is '84.

351W always used the same imbalance....it's the 302 that switched.

Is it just the flywheel on the 351? I had to put a balancer on my 84 351 and the book at the shop said that 84-87 were diffrent then the eairlier ones. Didn't matter though I had one from an 84, why i have no idea where it came from.

so as long as i get a flywheel off of a 351W and either clutch i should be OK?

Yep, just make sure the clutch does have the right bolt pattern to bolt up to your flywheel. Not sure if they made different ones for the 351...but I know there are at least 3 different patterns for a 460
