Like it says above...
reason:
I am thinking of goign to this bartending workshop. It goes for 3 weeks and they teach you various drinks, the tool, business management and a bunch of other stuff. What do you guys think about this kind of thing. Would you rather hire someone with this type of schooling or someone who has random knowledge and only knows how to mix purple hooters.

From my experience, it depends on where you want to work. In Chico, it seems better to start bar-baking unless you are hot and have good titties...
I guess they like the on the job experience, but some edu-ma-cating can never hurt.

Its very diffucult to start bartending at a bar, even if you have been bartending before. To get a job bartending you either haveto work your way up or get really lucky and know someone at a bar. THe bartending school is good for you knowing drinks but it doesnt help very much on getting a job as a bartender.
Hope this helps.

My Dad just did that a couple years ago... he didn't do it to get a job though.
He makes a couple bucks doing weddings and stuff sometimes (well depends on the wedding but sometimes he makes a killing).
Mostly he has a good time with it though... he said it is fun and interesting to know... if that helps at all.
I work for a chain of nightclubs and resturants(not as a bartender), heres what I can tell you. Hot chicks with skimpy clothes get tips. Aside from that in DC bartending is pretty competitive and you either need experience or bar tending school or both (if you are able to get an ABC license thats makes you very valuable) .
