Drivetrain Direct has them. Go for it man, I LOVE spools, they are so much nicer on the street than lockers IMHO.

Just wondering why a lot of people on this board will get a spool and not weld the spiders? Not knocking anyone here just wondering. I just never had any problems with a welded rear coming apart.

well i agree but a spool is stronger because you don't have to worry about the integrity of the welds. the guy i know running one in the rear 44 in his sami did't have the correct carrier to run 5.38's so he just said screw it and ordered a spool. more money....yes but like i said stronger. me, i'm like you weld it!

i think that you can get a mini spool for under 50$ (the mini allows you to keep your carrier/gear set up, and just replace your spiders... would save gear set up charges
my .02$ worth

I have a locker in my rear and from everything I've read and heard, a spool does not handle as poorly as a locker does. The spool won't have any slack in it to send you jerking all over the road. Plus when you let off the gas, both tires are at the same speed and you won't lerch across the lanes.
I'd go with a mini-spool since you don't have to redue your gears and they cost around $100.

Wouldn't a full spool be a lot stronger? You would have to use a stock carrier with the mini spool and if its lincoln locked. That would only be as strong as the stock carrier.
I have a full spool myself and its real nice off road and predictable if I do drive on the road.

i dont think that you could break a mini spool... i think you would twist an axle first... basically all a mini spool is, is a chunk of steel that locks the axles together instead of letting them spin independantly like spider gears... when you weld your spider gears you are creating a mini spool (yet only as strong as the welds)

By the way hows the cage? (send me some pics)
A minispool and welded spiders (even welded perfectly) are only as strong as the stock carrier. The spool on the other hand is much stonger. Now that being said I put a spool in rather than welding spiders mostly because I didnt wanna weld the detroit that was in the diff ;)

How much fun is that spool in the snow. I have a mini in my 9 inch and it is an incredible tool. Will find out this winter about the snow.
