I am having a severe problem with my pc trying to kill itself. it restarts itself at least 3 times per hour. I think this is due to overheating. I am looking for a program to wher eI can measure the cpu temp while idle and while doing harder tasks- 3dstudio max, cad, photoshop etc...
if anyone knows of a program please tell me. all I got off google was spyware results

check with the motherboard mfg... often there are sensors built in to better mobos. just run the software from the mfg and it'll tell you temps.

I run an A7V333. The monitor is on the CD that came with the board. ASUS may have it to download at their website.

so does this sound like it could be overheating to you? I have heard everything from bad power supply to bad ram to bad Mobo to bad hard drive...
a heat problem? al I know is the processor fan is a tiny thing, may have to upgrade regardless

upgrading the fan might be a good idea. Mine's got two fans, one huge one for the internal parts, and a smaller one shrouded to blow directly on the processor. My computer stays on all the time and is constantly running 3ds max, photoshop, combustion, and various other programs with no overheating problems.

now how do I set up this program?

it's not reading my fans or temps..
what do I do?

my case itself has 3 good size fans-2 front and 1 back.
and then the one on the cpu and one on GC...

man this computer is wierd....I hope I can figure all this out

I had some of those same issues, and i did an overhaul on my fans. I added an Athlon 1400 (which overheats like and XJ!) and then scored a copper heat sink and a huge fan. No more issues with temp there - the ambient hardly jumps until I really get on it. I picked up the parts at newegg.com - Great people to deal with. Lots of selection, good parts and quick shipping.

I also added one of those slot coolers into an empty slot in my case to take some of my video card heat away. Now, for a larger power supply!

BTW, have you dusted the mobo off lately? Dust really raises h@LL with mobos - shorts them out.

Many things can cause your system to reboot. Is the CPU fan the OEM one from AMD? If it is and is running at full ramp then that shouldn't present a problem. Mine runs in the neighborhood of 120º F and I have a 3 1/2" cooloing fan in the side of my case.

It could also be a damaged windows load as well.

one obvious thing to think about is the location of the computer. Is it somewhere where air can circulate around and through it?

Edit: you just answered that question

Leaving the cover off can actually raise the temperature of the CPU and motherboard.

If you want the PC Probe for your board I can see if it's small enough to load on my web space.

I've used several monitors in the past . This is the ASUS one and I've been running it since September with no problems at all out of it.

131º isn't hot enough to cause problems. I've had mine running fine at 140 before. My fan runs about 4900 RPM. So you're okay there. If you had a case fan you could drop that temp by another 10º F.

What type of memory do you have?

LordRatner
03-10-2003, 09:47 PM
run some cpu intensive stuff and see what the temp goes to.

It is high, but the faster these dang CPU's get the hotter they get.

Remember the days when CPU's didn't even have cooling fans, just heat sinks. :D

Have you tried it running just one stick? Swap one then the other? If it still acts up you can rule out the memory. Was that XP you're running? I still think it may be just a bad load. How many watts is your power supply? Does it reboot during any particular times or applications?

no, a little while ago I was drawing at my drawing table listening to music only, and it crashed. its random...
power supply is 400 watt antec

I want to try the one stick thing, I guess I will try that... tomorrow.
