: Lokar shifter on 700-R4 adjustment question

I am trying to get this thing on and adjusted. Where it looks like it will mount up on the bracket and clear everything inside the vehicle, the shifter arm makes contact with the transmission body. This is the arm that the mini heim joint goes on and the threaded rod attaches to and goes to the tranny shifter rod. This contact obviously will not let it go through the shifting pattern. This just doesn't seem right for a $175 shifter.

I'm going to call Lokar tomorrow, but I want to know if anyone else running this combo has had a similar problem. Thanks.

i had a similar problem with my lokar on my 4L80E. i e-mailed them and they said to just space it out with something (i.e. washers etc.) i found it very odd that i would pay close to $200 for a shifter and have to rig it to work. i would have been fine with it if it was mentioned in the directions. they should at least build them to fit!

Didn't have to do anything funky on mine to get it to fit. You sure you don't have the transmission arm mounted backwards or something. Mine fit great no jury rigging. Just bolted it on and made the adjustments for the gear selection. I haven't touched it since. That was two years ago.

That's what I'm wondering Mike ! Did I Fawk up Somewhere? This isn't a hard install, that's what I don't get.

I called Lokar today and talked to Denver and he simply said bend the arm so it clears. I asked if bending the arm would throw off the adjustment since it would be a slightly shorter throw and he said "NO, you would have to bend it 3" to make a difference".

I really thought it should bolt right up with no mods. THe shifter is on the 2nd and 3rd holes from the rear and it is the shifter arm that hits. It hits the protrusion that is up and behind the four pin plug connector. The arm comes straight down from the pivot point and then angles out and then goes straight down again. It just doesn't go far enough out. It kinda pisses me off.

I'd go look at mine but I already put it in storage for the winter. Of course wouldn't you know it its not winter yet. Still 60 degrees and nice. Oh well.

I figured it out tonight. All I had to do was loosen the set screw off of the arm, pull off the arm and reposition it on the splines. Now, it goes from behind the shifter handle to straight up and down instead of going from straight up and down to in front of the shift handle. Hope this makes sense.

It was one of those days when you work too long on the Jeep and you get dingy (see sig). I don't like the fact that the Lokar tech was so quick to tell me to bend it when there was an easy solution!
