This will probably bore the hell out of most of you but here it is anyway.

The folks I work for released a new ATM (http://www.diebold.com/solutions/atms/opteva/) today. It's pretty cool stuff and you'll be seeing them soon as we already have a lot of major banks asking for them. Alot of pretty neat features: Web capability, multicolor printers, advanced audio and video capablity (DVD capable), 5 high dispenser gives it a $300K compacity, voice guidance for visually impared people, blah, blah, blah.

Just thought I share!

Great, now our terminal fees can be $5 instead of $1-$2.

But it sounds neat. :D

Is it just me, or have any of you noticed the dumbing down of the vocabulary in those machines:confused:

"Withdrawl?" is now "Get Cash", and it gets worse:rolleyes:

Reminds me of the movie Kingpin:

Bill Murray: "Do you want some supplemental income?"

Woody: "Supplemental income??"

Bill Murray: "Yes, supplemental income"

Woody: "Supplemental??"

Bill Murray: "Extra...It means EXTRA...Do you want to make some extra money??!!!"

So you can have advertisments printed on your receipt in color. DVD is for software loading reasons.

That's damn funny because my title at one time was SE Datacom and I worked heavily with ATM networks.... I used to get a lot of intersting mail because of it.

The first time I heard ATM network I thought the same thing

I'm standing outside my bank, right?
So now I can pop in a DVD, check the PBB, Print some 35%, all while getting my $20 to go to the bar..... Is all that really necessary???

I was going to tease and comment "as long as it isn't a Diebold!" Uh oh...

My bro worked for a while in Central California doing the service on them. Funny as hell what some people do when the machine is "out of order" to them (hmm, then wonder why it takes so long to get back in service.)

Funniest was watch "Cliff" (actor from Cheers) walk up to a machine. Machine is slide back, but that slot is still there. He pushed he ATM card into asking "where is my money". I got to admit we were rolling in laughter with his stand up routine. Oh, I was outside of the machine... while bro was in the back.

My brother, the comedian, did have some fun. Lady walks up to the machine, gets her cash and reciept, and said "Thank You" to the machine. Bro answered "YOU'RE WELCOME, have a nice day". She kept trying to tell her friend "it talked to me".

XP beats the hell out of the machines I beta tested that were running Win 98 . I don't really agree with their decission to run a Win based OS, I personally would have rather seen something based on a Linix/Unix platform. All of our currently line of machines run OS2 which is a good OS but since IBM dropped it we had to go with something else.

Yes, the web gods that work here couldn't design a decent website if their lives depended on it.

As far as dumbing down the language yes, it's scarry. Of course that is all decided by the customer but it's sad. Ultimately most people don't care what the screen says they just want their $40. I was working on a machine once in a grocery store and had the entire display removed but the machine was still powered up and online. I had my back truned and a guy walked up, put his card in and got a quick cash without it even having a monitor in it.

I completely agree with you guys but, it's what the customers want. For along time we have had customers that will load one of the cassettes with coupons instead of cash and program the network to have the machine kick out a coupon on every transaction.

It's no different that when the grocery store prints crap on your reciept.

No keys sorry! Electronic combo locks that use an algorithym and a random number generator so you have to call for a new combo everytime you want to open the chest. :D

Actually it's not that much more than current machines which have a $240K compacity but they are rarely completely full. Average machine probably has between $100-150K in it.

What do you expect when a person now has to get to college before they have to learn to read? It seems that 1/2 th ehigh school grads down here still can't read @ what I consider a 3rd grade level, and don't know how to add 2 + 2.

You guys still get an actual paper receipt from your ATMs? Hell I haven't printed one of those off in a couple of years. I just it shown the screen.

you need to clutter up the waste slot on the machine with something.... used snotrags just seems gross, so I use those receipts.

That's going to cause you to spend more time at an ATM and get jacked by a robber.

my biggest bitch is that being charged for using ATM's is a crock. You're just being charged to save the bank money. Then again, anytime I call the bank my wife picked now it costs me $2 even when it's to fix their screwup

If they are advertising on my ATM receipt, I don't want to pay the $1.50 transaction fee. Let the advertisers pay it for me.

Just an FYI. For most full service branch machines it costs the bank $.50 - .70 per transaction for every non-customer transaction. It usually costs around $.25 for each customer transaction. Yes, they are making money but not as much as most people think.

So you're saying they're only making a buck thirty to buck fifty every time I walk up to a non-customer ATM. Yep, thats a considerable amount of money

Stop whining.

They are offering you a SERVICE.
They charge what the market will bear for that SERVICE.
If you are not happy with that SERVICE, stop using and paying for it.

Sheesh :shaking:

David, most people dont realize the bank saves money each time you walk in and use their ATM rather than a human teller. That was my point. Or we can talk about what it costs to process a check compared to the service charge you pay for using your ATM card at a POS. OF course the banking industry wants people tho think like you are. However since you're whining about people whining, stop it. It's been lovely witnessing your wit as always ;)
