I found a Dana 60 rear axle from an 81 Dodge. The only problem is he broke the pinion shaft. Is there any problems the axle could have incurred other than breaking the shaft that would be found later on down the road?
It is 4.10 w/open carrier and full-float. Also, is there any downside of it being a Dodge, like small axle tube thickness or any weak points compared to other D60's? I am thinking about dropping this in my CJ7.

if you plan on keeping the ring gear, you'll probably want to inspect it for stress cracks since the pinion shaft did break. check the teeth and wear pattern if any.

then when you get a new shaft you might as well replace the races, crush sleeves, bearings, .... and it'll be rebuilt axle!

Pull the cover and see what comes out.
