When I go to shut off my truck the engine will not stop running its a 460 its an early 80's ford Lincoln (I think) it makes a dieseling sound and to stop it i put it in gear and pop the clutch why is it doing this? I just hade it timed and the carb re jetted thinking that it was that and that wasn’t it.

Look for a vacuum leak and/or its probably got too high an idle speed:eek:

that kinda sounds like a bad cylinder head. Sounds like your valves are heating up, causing combustion after the ignition has been turned off.

I vote for high idle speed too. Is the carb's idle mixture proplerly adjusted??

I have the answer..........

You have been putting shit gas in it for a while so whats happening is....Fragments of hot carbon are igniting the mixture in your cylinders because of the low octane fuel you're using (gas prices SUCK!)...So. What do you do?

Buy 92 octane...A tank or 2.

That'll cure it.
