tdavis 03-11-2003, 11:27 PM Reno? Moonrocks? That's close enough for me!
Hey, it might be just time for that RingR get together..
I'm wanting to do one good snow run, but with the lack of anything even close to snow..
scwafish 03-11-2003, 11:29 PM Where you going wheeling on Friday? This sounds promising, I can be there on Thurs too. I'll remember to bring the beer that beotch Poppy lost for me!

sounds good to me, id like to wheel in that general area, ive never been to moon rocks before
bdacus 03-12-2003, 12:02 PM I live here in Reno and I'll go.
i know a few trails real close to town and hopefully, i'll find a few more soon. some guys from one of the local shops are heading out soon to what they said, "was an un-real" trail. and, from looking at there vehicles it IS.
there is a small 1/2 mile trail (that takes 2-4 hours) that is about 200yds off of pavement that is just a real kick. really close to a great Mexican-Baja restaurant too. you even get to drive over an abondon Ford Falcon (monster truck sytle, ye-ha).
Moon rocks is great, but won't they be starting to set up on friday. i think last year they ran the "stock" clase on friday or something. i know there was something going on out there.

Just found out that the comp is friday and saturday....
Ill be able to wheel on sunday and thats it...we wont be in reno till late thursday..

The Falcon is pushed over to the side now, so you don't really get to drive on it anymore. I suppose you COULD aim for it, but I like to keep my expensive rubber away from sharp sheet-metal. That trail is pretty awesome. Last time we were on it there was a fan through the radiator, a bent tie-rod, and my t-case split apart. It's fun, but I know of a few better trails.
scwafish 03-12-2003, 03:32 PM ZUks in Reno-Bdacus or Fe...pick a day and some trails and I'm there. It would be great if we could get a little zuk thing that weekend. I'll be yelling for Rude at moonrocks the other day. Seriously...book it!

Im game lets do it, everyone game for wheelin on sunday??
i could use a little lettin loose after a comp!!!
bdacus 03-12-2003, 03:46 PM so what is the actual date you guys are talking about?
Rudezuk 03-12-2003, 03:47 PM April 13th
bdacus 03-12-2003, 04:02 PM looks good to me. already had planned on being at the moonrocks event (not competing, tried that last year; a little to wild for me, i hate that REALLY steep and off camber stuff).
FeCamel,
what are your ideas on trails? since i assume some if not all will be trailering, starting at the base of Peavine (7th St. pits area) may work. i would guess 4-6 hours would satisfy most since they will be driving home that afternoon/evening as well. have you been out in Hidden Valley area? that is where those other trails i heard about are. call me sometime, cell: 240-3738

Where ever! I think ill be staying in Boom town that weekend at a friends house....How far is moon rocks from there?
Where would we meet up?
tdavis 03-12-2003, 04:26 PM What's the weather like up there like?
I don't care about the comp.. but would like to wheel some.
bdacus 03-12-2003, 04:37 PM RudeZuk,
Moon Rocks is about 45 minutes at least from boomtown. it's not far, just by the time you go down the few miles of dirt road and out through Spanish Springs it takes time.
The Peavine area, and actually Peavine Mtn. is the larger mountain to the NE behind boomtown. basically between boomtown and reno.
Tdavis,
the weather the last few days is almost 70F, spring like. should be good by April 13th, but you never know. it rained on us off/on durring tech last year (friday) and was hotter than hell and all sun on Saturday/Sunday. Spring weather in Reno is always questionable. i have been snowed on in town all the way up to June 3rd and saw people in shorts today.

Thanks, sent you a PM....
FeCamel 03-12-2003, 09:24 PM OK let's plan something then. I'll keep the date open, I might not have a ride at that time, but I'd definitely want to come watch and help play tour-guide. That Peavine Canyon is pretty nice for a half-day run, most of the really good trails I know would be more of a full-day thing.
We could probably meet at that shopping center on the corner of McCarran and Kings Row. They'll probably have to unload there because I don't think there's room up by the pits since the FS made the new official road up there. It's pretty narrow to be pulling a trailer through.
bdacus: I haven't done a lot of 'wheeling out by Hidden Valley. We usually go east of Reno: Bronco, Tracy/Clark, Dead Horse are all pretty good, and of course the Peavine trail. We're doing a run on 4/5/03 and you're welcome to come with us.
If anybody is in the Reno area and wants to wheel, give me a call.

I cant drive my buggy on the street....i need to trailer at least to a dirt road...
Scaw..you have any extra seats in your ride?
bdacus 03-12-2003, 09:39 PM FeCamel,
Sounds good on location. i thought about Bronco's but it's just too darn far to play around. i think most will have had their fill with the competition, so a little "at home" playing around would be fun and it's close to pavement. there is enough to do around the Peavine area for a few hours.
that shopping center is probably the best to meet, and possibly unload. hopefully they won't care to have some tow rigs parked there for awhile. up Kingsrow right before the entrance is an open field that usually has a few hundred feet of curb/street space to park as well. don't know if you can actually park in the field or not.
The FS really screwed it up for bringing trailers in up there. no way now.
where are you guys going on the 4/5?
scwafish 03-12-2003, 10:21 PM This is sounding sweet. I'm down for Sunday, but I wouldnt mind doing Sat. or Fri. too. One day of comp. spectating will be enough for the kids, they are going to wanna go wheeling.
I will be trailering too. My rig isn't as buggyish as Rude's, but the less pavement the better. I've got no glass, front turns, side mirrors and a bunch of exposed rubber.
Rude-I plan on bringing two of my kids. I should have one seat open and plenty of room for stuff.

If you wouldnt mind, like to see if a passenger rides with you on sunday??
scwafish 03-12-2003, 10:37 PM If I have a seat its all yours. The only reason I can see not having one is if the wife decides to come or my buddy doesnt get his toyota back together in time. Both are very unlikely.

thanks!!
Might just have to have a couple of rigs go with us:D
So this place...can you tow to the dirt road?
Mine isnt street legal at all!!
tdavis 03-12-2003, 11:13 PM If it's saturday and sunday wheeling, I'm considering coming up for it.
I have to trailer, since the zuk is totally illegal for street use (tires sticking out, blah, blah, blah..)
I'd need to find a place to stay - any cheap hotels/motels that are secure? Don't want everything stolen out of the zuk at night..
scwafish 03-13-2003, 07:41 AM Rooms in Reno arent expensive generally. We stayed at one of the nicer Casinos last time and got rooms for $35/night and the parking security was over the top. I'm going to do some research today.
bdacus 03-13-2003, 01:41 PM does anyone know the competition schedule? as far as what classes which days, or are they all everyday? suppose i could look it up on the net, but i'm too lazy.
i will probably only make it out on friday in the afternoon at best; have to work.
where is Tech at? last year Calrocs had it at the Hilton, where is RCAA having it?
FeCamel,
got any ideas on a second day of wheelin'? Bronco's maybe. if you haul ass on the dirt road it only takes about 30-40 minutes. i think many may think it is too far for such a short trail. of course get them drunk enough and they won't care.
honestly, 1 day of wheelin' and 1 day of spectating is good for me, but i'm easy.
scwafish 03-13-2003, 02:27 PM I think they run both classes both days. The event is at the Hilton. Rooms at the Hilton are $89 if you say your with the event. Atlantis had some online deals as low as $45.
One day of each will work for me as well, just looking for a little more if possible.
scwafish 03-14-2003, 05:23 PM So where are we meeting on Sunday? What time?
bdacus 03-14-2003, 09:08 PM I would suggest we meet where FeCamel suggested, at the shopping center parking lot on the corner of McCarren & Kings Row.
I could draw a map if needed but we should all have made actually person/person contact by then anyhow.
as far as time, lets go with 9:00am. so hopefully by 10:00 all the "slow" people have arrived. i'll be there about 8:30 i'm sure.
anyone got a count on how many? please post if you are "GO" or "NO-GO" just so i can total it up. may depend on where we park all the tow rigs.
scwafish 03-14-2003, 10:27 PM I am a "GO".
Are you talking about the Raleys parking lot across from the old 7-11? When I was a little kid it was Eagle Thrifty! Or are you talking about the mini mall with the subway on the other side of the freeway.
bdacus 03-15-2003, 08:56 AM i think neither on the location. i'm not completely sure on the businesses you mentioned.
if you look up "King Row, Reno, Nv. 89503" on any of the "map" wepsites and zoom in until you see it cross McCarren Blvd, that is where we will meet.
http://mappoint.msn.com/(1rmdljurkokkatbrmse4t0n4)/map.aspx?L=USA&C=39.54689%2c-119.86473&A=7.16667&P=|39.54689%2c-119.86473|1|Kings+Row%2c+Reno%2c+NV+89503|L1|
i actually can't think of what stores are in the center, but it is a smaller strip mall. The strip mall will be on the NW corner. I think there is a fire station on the NE corner
tdavis 03-15-2003, 10:05 AM Is this at the intersection of Kings Blvd and North McCarren Blvd?
I can find that on Yahoo! maps easily.
If it's just sunday, I'll just get up early (about 4am) and tow up for the day from Pinole (3hr drv normally.. so I'm estimating 4 hrs with a trailer, give or take some)
I will need to trailer as close to the trail head as possible.. The zuk isn't a street vehicle.
bdacus 03-15-2003, 04:09 PM tdavis,
you got the location perfect.
even if we have to unload there it is only about 1 to 1-1/2 miles up Kings Row. It isn't a heavily driven street since it is a "dead-end" so only residence drive it. it wouldn't concern me even if i wasn't registered. a lot of people ride dirt bikes & quads in the area so a few buggies shouldn't matter.
what's crappy is; i don't know what forsestry service was thinking because this area is a designated OHV area but they recently went in a "rock lined" the entrance roads leaving no parking except out on the pavement in a residential area.
i will go up there in my daily driver in the next week or so and see if i can find an alternative to this location for parking. the area is undergoing constant construction and things change over the coarse of a few months.
scwafish 03-15-2003, 07:22 PM I will find it on a map site. I used to live off of Kings Row when I was a little guy.
bdacus 03-15-2003, 08:09 PM well, then i'm sure you put a few back at the pits. if you went through high school in reno, you know about the 7th st. pits. well, i suppose you mean like 2,3,5,6 years old then. just givin' you crap. ha, ha!
of course i got grey hair this year so i'm sure all the yougsters are puttin'em back somewhere i don't know about now. kinda freaks me out about what i have to look forward to with my son.
FeCamel 03-15-2003, 08:23 PM OK, if we meet on the NW corner of King's Row and McCarran, it is just a few blocks of residential street to the trail. I drive my unregistered/uninsured/illegal Zuk up there sometimes and the cops have never hassled me. If you are really paranoid, you can drive your trailers on pavement to the turn-out, unload, then go find a parking place for your tow rigs.
bdacus-I have a few other trails if people want a second day of 'wheeling, we'll play it by ear. On the 5th, we are going to Tracy/Clark about 15 miles East of Reno. It is sort of like Bronco, but closer (time-wise) and with more options for carnage as well as dirt roads for stockers. We are meeting at the Lockwood exit from I-80 at 10:00 AM, then we will caravan out to the trail.
scwafish 03-15-2003, 09:07 PM I know exactly where we are talking about now...when I was a kid I used to hunt for doves etc. up that way with my dad. This will be fun.
tdavis 03-15-2003, 09:26 PM I'll be a GO for sure on Sunday. I don't have problems driving a mile or two to the trail - I just don't do it fast. The Zuk only has a 1.3EFI in it, and the dual toys don't have an overdrive in high-high, and it has other problems that limit my speed (death wobble, don't want to temp the high pinion rear to blow out).
I'm game also for coming up saturday morning, wheeling in the afternoon, and having a zuk dinner saturday night.. but I'm a looking for a hotel with good lot security (probably should just bite the bullet, and check into the hilton, since that place will probably be full of 4x4's.)
I also know nothing about Reno, other than it's a place on the map in Nevada, and I've driven through it several times on I80. :D
scwafish 03-16-2003, 06:15 AM I would be up for that too, but Saturday isnt for sure anymore. My kids science fair project is advacing to the next round and might be on Sat.
bdacus 03-16-2003, 09:17 AM the part that sucks with the Hilton is; it is one of those BIG hotels and you have to park WAY out in the parking lot and then WALK forever to the hotel, across the casino, up the elevator and all that to your room.
in this situation i like the "motor-lodge" type better. your rig is closer to you so you can keep an eye on it. the Hilton does have good security and they just put up all new lot lighting. looks like daytime now it's so bright. - your choice.
scwafish 03-16-2003, 11:57 AM When we stayed at the Atlantis the parking lot security was so good they were a little obnoxious...which is great when your junk is outside! I cant imagine that it will be lax at the Hilton with all of the RCAA junk in the lot.
scwafish 03-29-2003, 07:10 AM So is Sunday still a go?? Who's going?
bdacus 03-29-2003, 09:35 AM Yeah, i'm planning on Sunday for sure.
i suppose we will all meet up at Moon Rocks either friday or saturday and make a plan from there, otherwise i suggest we meet at 9:00am at the mentioned shopping center on King Row & McCarren.
Rudezuk 04-03-2003, 09:32 PM so how much wheelin is there at moon rocks? is it worth just hanging out there for the day?
what is the plan then for next sunday?:D
scwafish 04-03-2003, 10:07 PM There is plenty of opportunity to get stupid at moon rock, but its not a trail, its sort of like the masters course. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=95565&highlight=no+snow+on+these+rocks

How far is the trail from there?
scwafish 04-04-2003, 10:12 AM Moon Rocks is about 30 mins. north from Reno. The area the trail is in on the west side of town, about 10 mins from the exit to Moon Rocks...so 40-45 minutes???

cool as long as there is a place that we can unload the buggy next to the trail? And park there??

FeCamel 04-04-2003, 07:07 PM We've been getting snow for the last few days here. It's been melting daily though and it shouldn't be much of an issue.
RedNeckRea 04-05-2003, 12:37 AM wish I was able to get up there and see this event. really want to see all the sami's out there wheeling together. But sadly, there is a thing called school, work, and lack of wheeler that keeps me from going:( .
FeCamel 04-05-2003, 02:35 AM I keep telling ya I got the cure for your "lack of wheeler" sitting right outside . hahaha :flipoff2:
FeCamel 04-08-2003, 11:43 PM So are we on for Sunday? You guys realize that this is a very short trail right? I figured most of you would want something short before the drive home. If you guys want to spend more time on the trail and want to hit more challenging terrain, that could be arranged as well.
Where is everyone going to be at the comp on Saturday? Is there going to be a meeting place to discuss the Sunday run?
Roc Dog 04-09-2003, 04:12 PM Seeing as there will be no where any of us can distinguish as a meeting place due to the fact that some have not been there before and you cant really say meet by that brown rock by that other brown rock, why dont we look for the BFGoodrich truck and meet there at noon? That should be parked right there by the front courses and easy for all of us to find????Originally posted by FeCamel

bdacus 04-09-2003, 07:46 PM by the BIG BFgoodrich truck sounds good to me.
since i'v never actually met any of you guys, i wonder how many strangers i'll have to ask before someone says, "yeah, i have a samauri."
Roc Dog 04-09-2003, 10:38 PM FAWK!!! The fawking weather is not looking good again for this weekend! Snow over the pass. I am fawking pissed!!!
I will be there if the weather holds up but trailering over the pass is not happening for me! FAWK!!!
tdavis 04-09-2003, 10:40 PM Well, thought about it.. I'm staying here, going to wire up the elocker in the rear, and work more on the tranny tunnel.
Tintop 04-09-2003, 10:43 PM what axle do you ahve the E locker for? What are you thoughts on it? How much did it cost? They have one for sammy axles yet?
scwafish 04-09-2003, 11:03 PM I may not get there sat. until late, but I will be there sunday at the trailhead unless the weather gets too shitty over the pass. Car trailer+Excursion+Snow=
Bdacus do you have a cell? Or can I PM you my cell in case I miss you guys sat.?
Roc Dog 04-09-2003, 11:03 PM I have a friend selling a ELocker if anyone is interested.

toyota elocker, for the rear. See http://www.inchwormgear.com for more info on cost.
There is no elocker for zuk axles.
The weather forcast is the other reason - I have no desire to find out how my F150 and the zuk on the trailer works in ice/snow. Yea, the f150 is 4wd, and I hit some snow/ice/deep water in feb, and it wasn't fun at all.. I was worried to death about the trailer coming around and doing one of them tail wagging things..
bdacus 04-10-2003, 07:41 AM Scwafish, and to anyone else:
my cell is 240-3738
i think it works out at moonrocks if i remember right. anyhow, if not, leave a message on the voice mail. you can call it anytime, i always have it.
------------------
the weather really does seem to be an issue. if it helps to anyone, Moonrocks is away from the mountains and does not get the "shadow" affect like even Reno does. the forcast could very well be bad in the mountains and the weather be "ok" out there. it's just a matter of getting over the pass.
scwafish 04-10-2003, 07:20 PM Thanks bdacus...I'm ready to go its all about the weather now. I'll keep ya posted.
bdacus 04-10-2003, 07:53 PM the weather report is a little better now for reno. calling just for clouds. it's just a matter if you get over the pass. anyway i'm still up for it.
talked to Shane (rudezuk) out at summit today durring the Tech Inspection. he is unsure if he can make it for some reason (don't remember)
if there are any questions whether to "just" come out and check the event out i would HIGHLY recommend it. EVERYONE is there with all the NEW BAD ASS stuff. rigs like you wouldn't believe. this sport is WAY HIGH TECH THIS YEAR. big names and big sponsors. there are so many rigs i don't know how they are going to let them all run. many of these rigs are "first time out" ones. not a scratch on them. Spidertrax has a bithin' new rear/mid engine buggy. only 2120 pounds. they actually have to add 80lbs to meet the minimum 2200lb mark. a few others i can remember are:
Avalanche
Shaffer
Badlands
Waker Evans (the new independent)
Currie
and on, and on.....
Roc Dog 04-10-2003, 08:03 PM I may still be coming out with just the kids and the D/D to at least watch the event. I will leave it up to the Friday night weather report to decide if I will bring the rig or not.
