This weekend i ran across a Front Dana 44 that would work perfect for the SAS on my truck but i wanna get a few more facts about it. Its off a '75 Jeep Wagoneer, i'm not sure which engine since it was gone already, doesn't have manual hubs, and has Disc brakes. i just wanna know what the possible gear ratios are and if it has the smaller U-joints or not. Also what you think i should pay for an axle like this one. If you have any other important info i didn't think of let me know. Thanks.

The gears are probably useless to most any 4 wheeler. Probably 3.50s or numerically lower. I believe the little set of numbers that is on the little piece of metal that is held on by the bolts that hold the diff cover on will tell you the stock gear ratio.

The hubs are probably full-time 4wd. My waggy axle was like that. I carry around the old full time things as trail spares for the day that I blow up a hub.

I don't think the engine that the heep had in it matters. A D44 is a D44 for the most part.

I paid $150+tax from a not so local pick n pull here in CA. I believe that is the going rate for a front axle around here.

I don't know about the u-joints for sure, but I believe all of the waggy d44s use the standard 297 ujoint.

Cool, thanks. I was pretty sure the gearing was gonna be useless for me, just wanted to make sure of a couple other things. thanks again.

Everything BigBadBob had to say was right on, one bonus you might have noticed, it should have the flat top steering knuckles, which work great for high clearance steering.

one other thing to check is that it doesn't have the vacuume disconect axle shaft. These may not have started in 75 but it never hurts to look on a waggy axle. The giveaway is the big funky looking diff cover. Chances are it is quadratrack and does not have this feature but don't forget to look.

It should not have the vaccume disco. One other bonus is the extra thick diff. cover, if you are running a D44 rear you can use one of these covers out back also. The fill plug is also higher on these which is great for the rear if you have the pinion turned up at all, helps in pinion bearing lubricaton. Just something else I noticed when I did my swap. I'm not sure what this is going in, but they are also very easy to convert to 5 on 5 1/2 bolt pattern with mid 70's f150 hubs and rotors, this also gives you the better sealing lockouts.
Good luck.

If it doesn't have the flattop knuckles and you have a lot of time on your hands, go pull them off of a chevy near by. Build your axle up as much as you can in the yard and it can save you quite a few dollars in the long run.

Its gonna be goin in my 89 isuzu amigo which has the same 6 on 5.5 bolt patern. one more reason i like the waggy axle, i dont have to mess with it much to work well for me. thanks for the info guys, i appreciate it.
