I have this small acetelyn tank and would like to use the tank for on board air.
What gauge setup will work on the tank and where could I purchase such gauge? Do I need dual gauges?
Any problems getting it filled since it was used previously for acetelyn?
Wasn't there somebody on the list that sold gauges?

Thanks

Bennett, you might want to call a welding supply shop and check this out. As I recall, acetylene is an unstable gas so in order to store it at high pressure it requires a special tank. The tanks are usually filled with a porous material and acetone. This absorbs the gas and keeps it stable. There's probably too much crap inside the tank for it to be a good air storage tank. Like I said, check with someone who knows for sure. I might be full of sh!t.

Yeh Dan, thats about right. Just look for a used Oxy cylinder thats not being used, maybe get a small one for hospitals. Matt

Yup, that about sums up an Acet.. Tank
An Oxy tank for welding would be big overkill IMHO
Holds way more PSI than you will need or can probably attain.
Look for a air tank from a Semi or other BIG truck.
If you want a stand alone tank...
Look for a CO2 for a BEER dispenser etc and addapt it.

old fire extinguisher? and maybe cut it down, or just an air tank off a truck, i have seen both of these used effectively

mine is painted shiny red ;)

i would be EXTREMELY careful when selecting a tank. if you use an old scuba, oxy or similar tank, the company that fills it for you will want to know when it was hydro'ed. if you use one of the supplemental low pressure tanks, some of these "made up but look cool" tanks were never made to hold that amount of compressed air that you intend to put in it and can explode, very dangerous. i have some pics of a guy that converted a beer keg with disasterous results i may try to dig up.

I'm using an air tank from a semi-trailer. rated at 300 PSI. Has all the mounting brackets, and bungs to put relief valve, output air line, input air line, and a fitting for a pressure switch. Worked out sweet and mounted like a dream in the back in between the frame rails...:skull:
