Who has an '87 wrangler I can look at? Or more precisely a Dana 35 non C-Clip axle?

I need to look at one to figure out the following things:

1. I need the brake line T-Connector. Or at least to see what it looks like. Is it part of the main hose? Does the main hose hook into it? On my '93, the axle vent comes off the t-connector. On the '87, there is a seperate axle vent, and then a bolt that I assume holds the t-connector in place. None of the auto parts stores can find this part. I might be able to find a similiar connector, but first I have to figure out what the stock one is like.

2. I need to see the cylinders in the rear drums, which way the brake lines screw into them...they're different, and I'm not sure what side goes where.

That's it for now, but it's the only thing holding me back from finishing this "small" direct swap. Ebrake is my next thing to look at.

Thanks! I also have to figure out how to take the pads out of the front caliper...I think I need a 7mm allen wrench.

Pictures of the T-Connector or where the brake lines connect to the drum would be wonderful!

Hey Dan, mines an 88 but I think these pics show what you are looking for.

The connector is part of the mail brake line.

This one is from a 89 I think. I swapped it into my 92 but I guess I was lucky and got all the brake stuff with the swap. I used what worked between the two axles. You will have problems with your original ebrake stuff. You will need the ebrake from the 87 axle if it's the same as mine the original will be too short.<IMG width=500 height=375 SRC="http://www.pirate4x4.com/ubb/uploads/braket.jpg">

Thanks, that's great! I found the main hose at a "real" parts store. Autozone, O'Reilly's, and the dealer couldn't get it...but my local small parts store will have it by 2pm today.

Now I just have to hope that that new main brake line will connect to my main line coming to the back to that bracket!

Hey thumper, that picture you posted showing the back of the wheel cylinder, what side of the vehicle is that? I'm guessing it's the left rear right?

Hey Thumper, or whomever else. How is your brake line run across the axle? Over the diff, in front of the diff, behind the diff?

I hear ya, they do suck!! But at least this one isn't a c-clipped version.

If I had the $$, it'd be a 60 going in there instead of a 35. Maybe when I'm out of school and have a real job!!

you know what is funny is evry one says that d-35's suck but the d-30 is a strong axle. I have broken 4 front axles on my d-30 but never have I hurt my d-35. Although I did screw up my lockright so I fond an 87 with no c-clips and a detroit so I swapped it for my 95. I have not repaired an axle for over a year now. <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">
