Alright, I have a 72 FJ40 with the remnants of the PTO winch coming off the transfer case.
I need to remove this to make room for the exhaust coming off my newly installed headers (see other thread)
How many have done this? What do you use to cover the hole in the t-case? how much of a pain in the ass am I asking for?!
everything under there is stock config.
Thanks for any input :smokin:

I am assuming its the factory gear box mounted to the side to the x-fer case. If so you just, drain the gear oil, remove the drive shaft if still there, remove the six(?) bolts, take off the factory gear box, and replace it with a factory gasket or RTV and cover. You could make a factory cover if you did not have one, it was basically a flat piece of alum. from the factory.

I'll be glad to mail you the flat cover in exchange for the PTO :D :D

If you decide to sell the box, I may have a friend who wants it.
In line after screwzer, of course.:D

Don't you guys have winches already?
What's so special about the PTO?
and actually FC187 can get first dibs if he wants, do to his former generosity.

I love my PTO winch. No BS, no overheating, no cooked motors. And, Its cool that its a factory cruiser part.
But, gotta be running (upright and not hydro locked)and you can break things really easily . Ya figure ya have at least an inline 6 turning those gears as opposed to a we electrical motor. If your shear pin dont shear something has to give. hopefully its the cable (cheap) and not the pillow block or the PTO box
so the box would be a good spare:D,.....................but...........I dont want to horde. It would just be a spare for me. If someone else can use it,...go for it.
I really appreciate your offer but I will take my third place in line.

To me it would be cool to run my electric in the rear, and the PTO in the front.
I have been pulled out of holes by a PTO
(VERY SLOWLY) after my electric refused to do it.
But it is a bit overly complicated, requires more maintenance, and more expensive to repair than an electric. That is why I want one of each.
I am basically just greedy.:p :p

I have that PTO driver gear gracing the floor of my garage if anyone needs it. I think you have to use the Toyota tranny to run it so if you have a different transmission I am not sure it would be any good. Let me know if I'm wrong.

Is there even a difference?

Do you need a cover for the hole? I may have one for you. Let me know. It's an easy task.

Thanks for all the replies.
First off I'm going to try the easy route and weld up some flex pipe to the header Y and the other muffler around/under the PTO.
If that fails I'll remove it.
