My FJ40 is smelling like a gas station. I have looked for obvious leaks, but can't seem to find anything. Any ideas? General setup includes Chevy 350 w/q-jet, mech fuel pump, stock and aux gas tanks (aux tank works off inline switch instead of pumping into stock tank).

Any suggestions? PLEASE!! I am getting nervous driving this beast with the strong smell of gas (and I have tried to retire my roadster from day driver status due to accident safety). Also, my wife is starting to ask if it shouldn't be parked outside the garage to avoid a house fire.

Maybe the fuel pump? Might wanna pull it and see if its leaking internally into the engine cavity. Just a thought. Assume you have checked all the obvious.

Check the goofy breather lines off the back, see if a plug has come loose, or a line is cracked.
One of my plugs came loose, and oozed fuel under the tank where i couldn't see it.
You can feel around the drain hole in the floor to see if anything underneath is seeping.
You probably went through all this already, but thought I'd put it up here anyways.

Mine leaked at the top inner seam, too, and only showed being wet at extreme angles, or when it was overfilled.

Bruce -

Mine smelled bad because of a hairline crack where the 90 degree elbow enters the tank. You could only see it after you ran around for a while. If you can't see it, pull the pass seat and the fuel fill covers. Get a tube of seal all. After you figure out where the crack is, clean the area with paint thinner and coat it with Seal All.

All fixed for $0.99!

This is of course assuming that you have checked all the rubber lines (they seem to go in as little as 3 years (dang oxygenated gas!) and that none of the 5 tubes on your tank have come undone....
