: regular rivets to secure fiberglass part of hard top?

the white fiberglass part of my top is separate from the steel part right now. ccot has rivets for this..but dont i need the special tool for those kind? it doesnt look like a conventional rivet. can i use regular rivets liek w/ a rivet gun? if so what size rivets. heres the link for their rivets...thanks!

Yep! Those are conventional rivits. They're steel cause the aluminum pop-rivets would corrode like hell on ya, plus they aren't waterproof. BTW the second link that shows the installation is called "Buckin' the rivet" (not fawking the rivet) basically you smack it from the top and the buck on the backside forms the shroom since the end is usually hollow.

HMMMMM.....I have used regular aluminum pop rivets without any issues. Used a pop rivet gun to install, then put a bead of RTV on the inside of the drip rail covering the rivets. No leaks, no rust....:skull:

I used stainless sheet metal screws with good results on my top. After installing them I used a pair of snippers to snip off the pointy end for a "cleaner" look. Not OE but it worked.

I used 3/16 diameter x 1/2 long aluminum rivets with aluminum washers on the crush side and has held up with no leaks or corrosion for 5 years now. I just put a little dab of clear silicone on each rivet before I clamped it down. Cost about 15 bucks cause i had to buy a cheap rivet gun when I did it.
