I am planning on running a GMNP203 to FordNP205 doubler on my new rig so I don't have to modify the Ford RC60 I have, and need to know what it takes if anything to bolt a NP203 from a GM TH350 trans onto a 700R4. My trans is a 2wd trans and I believe that I need a 4wd trans or a shorter input shaft for it to bolt right up. Am I forgetting anything?
And if I need a 4wd 700r4 what donor vehicle should I look for in reguards to stronger parts and lower stall converter? I am thinking a 89 or newer diesel 4wd. thoughts?
Thanks in Adnvance

the 2wd and 4wd 700's are identical except for the output shafts and the 4 vs 6 bolts holding on the inspection cover. you can either change the output shaft in the 2wd trans or get yourself a 1988 and up th700 or 4L60 as it's now called. they did change over to a 4L60E between 92 and 94 depending on application. this trans is fully computer controlled and solenoid shifted so stick with 88 thru 92 years.
the rear bolt pattern of the 700 is identical to the 350 so bolting up a 203 is a cinch. just get a 203 with the 350 adapter(this is the most common and cheapest version).
keep in mind that the 203 is a heavy bastard and the rear of the 700 case is not it's strong point. build yourself a beefy x-member with at least 2 mounts to support all that extra weight, or you'll be replacing the 700 case on a regular basis.

or do what i did. i had a b&Mth350 that was 2wd and had a short shaft. i built a spacer on the lathe and put it in between the tranny and tcase adapter. hell,,over 500hp and 9000 rpm through the mud its lasted over a year and still going. it would save you from having to tear down the tranny to put a shaft in,and a machine shop could build you one for like 50 bucks probably

MattS is doing something like this... putting a 700r4/turbo 4.3 in place of a th350/4.3 (in my truck now) might want to PM him
