We were just talking about the pitcrew guys at work today, a coworker knows a former pitcrew member... somehow got his hand between the car and the jack- pulled back real hard- left his glove stuck in there. By the time the adreniline lowered enough that his hand started aching he noticed his fingertip missing.

Would be quite a job though. Gotta be shaking with anticipation, then go time the adreniline shoots through the top of your head, then back to shaking. fun stuff!

David, what's his job at the shop during the week, and (if you don't mind me asking) what kind of money does a crew member make:confused: :D :D

He can actually do just about everything to be honest - one of the few that can. For this team he is involved with car set-up, and front suspension.

With so many races in the season now - they work like madmen almost year round. Not sure on exact pay numbers - but I know most all of them make $50k plus, and some teams go over $100k with bonuses

I know a lot of the teams use "hired guns". They are guys that have a normal M-F job like us (well, not like us). They are flown in for the weekend to pit, then go home. I believe they do that because the other guys already have enough to do and would like them to focus on the shop responsibilities.

At the low end I don't think 50k is enough to keep me from my family for that long:eek: That season is long, and it's getting longer every year with new cities trying to get a piece of the NASCAR cash cow.

As was said - some of them just come in for the races, and pit practices. He makes more than $50k, but he works all week in the shop too. Yeah - I agree, it is a lot fo work and not enough pay for *me* either.

Sucks too - they have a little girl hust 2 months older than Gracie, and since they live up in NC and he gets no time off, we never get to see her/them :(

He has been doing it all his life -worked for Davy Allison's team with his grandfather when he was younger too. His years in the sport, and ability to do MANY of the tasks mean that one day he is prime candidate for a sweet position like Crew Chief, etc...

But hey - anyone who knows anyone who is serious about ANY kind of racing knows they see things different than the rest of us when it comes to their job/hobby/LOVE ;)

thats gotta be one of the coolest jobs around short of being a crew chief or driving, that rocks. I wish I had an office like that.

So your saying he risks his life and gets paid less than some people around here that do nothing all day?

I wouldn't do that for less than $200,000.

I would hardly use this bunch as a norm for any comparisons :p

But yeah - the lack of family time is a BIG problem I see with his job... They OWN you :(

I live in the same town as the Jarretts and Jason cant drive worth a shit. I dont think he ever finished higher than 3rd in late model at Hickory. Dale Jarretts house is about a 1/2 mile from my moms. Fat pad w/ a go cart track beside the chopper pad.

I have to laugh at your ignorance

First off - even the WORST drivers racing ARCA are probably better than 95% of the rest of us. Jason is a consistent top 10 finisher, and to have placed even 3rd shows he CAN drive.

Besides - Kimmel (sp) has the series locked up - that guy can drive and has a car that is INSANE faster than everything else he races... So there goes 1st place at most of the races :p

But saying Jason can't drive worth a shit? Shit is right - and the smell seems to be coming from your direction
