howell might be a good place to start, but i have heard that their systems have had some serious problems with the computer module etc. not sure but ask them about what customers have said or if there have been manufacturer's defects. I had an electromotive kit which was a throttle body and a distributorless set up. It worked very well. But i know have an efi 302 in it

thought that might help!:)

Howell did have trouble in their early years. That's a thing of the past nowadays though. I have installed three Howell systems and all of them have worked like a champ from day one to the present. Hopefully the rumors of Howells problems will go away someday.

Im thinking that when I rebuild my 258 (its got 179,000 miles on it) I'll want fuel injection.. can anyone point me out a reason why not to go with the MPFI kit? besides the fact that 92 octane is supposedly needed for it to run right? I don't care really how much money I have to spend on gas...

Consider swapping in a whole 4.0L if the idea appeals to you. Worst part (besides DIY EFI) is the crank reference signal.

In any event, look for the Yahoo group Homegrown_TBI...I don't have good signup info, but try this:

Homegrown_TBI-subscribe@egroups.com

(Maybe someone else has a website or something)

you can prolly swap a whole tbi chevy drivetrain in your jeep for the cost of the mopar kit, not sure how much the howell kit costs

I think that for the cost of the MPFI kit you could buy a fairly low mileage 4.0L and no have to deal with the hassle of the MPFI install. :smokin:

Just my $0.02

1badjeep, there is one reason to not use a MOPAR SMPI or 4.0L swap. If a tinkerer you be, or your the type of guy who really loves to tinker and tune the engine... differenent grinds on the cam, etc. The computer driviving the SMPI system is locked down. You can't reprogram the Eprom in the computer for new RPM/Fuel ratio steps. I've heard HESCO is doing some re-program work. I've not seen the results of thier work yet and sustpet that it would be very expensive and experimental.

On the Howell and Turbo City, the TBI computer can be re-programed for a fee (if you don't do it yourself with an eprom burner and a laptop).

Then there's Electromotive that gives you a feedback carburator, a venturi-jet Electronic Fuel Injection system that you can fiddle with all you want.
