Shouldn't hurt it. My microwave is on the other side of the wall from my monitor, and when it's on it messes up the picture on the monitor, but it hasn't done any long term damage to it yet

I always press my nose on the glass and watch the food cook. I'm only slightly balding and my eyes barely glow at night. I don't see a problem with it. :flipoff2:

I wouldn't put it too close. Someone called my cell when I was home a few weeks ago and I was talking to them and walked by the microwave and it was on. As soon as I did that my phone started to act wild and make some odd sounds. I walked out of the kitchen and it was fine.... tried it again just to see and same thing.... kinda was freaky.... I bet it'd mess with the puter the same way.... :rasta:

I've always heard you shouldn't use a microwave while it's sitting in your lap but that's a guy thing so you should be ok.:D

I would really like to get my teeth fixed. I thought staring into the microwave would whiten them but I guess not. :(

ok, my mom always accused me of being the serious one in the house so I'll just let the true geek speak flow.

Microwave won't necessarily "hurt" the monitor per say. But, you may get some nasty EM fields generated and would make the image all twisted and distorted while it's on. If your monitor has an auto-de-Gauss(sp?) it may try to correct it, but if it's sitting RIGHT beside it and the fields strong enough the monitor won't be able to compensate. If the field generated by the oven is strong enough to effect the monitor, but weak enough that the monitor is able to compensate, you could potentially be shortening the lifespan of the monitor by a little, but probably not enough to worry about. On the flip side, the fields generated by the monitor will help warm your lunch quicker :D .

For the cell phone deal (whoever mentioned that), that's just an issue with the microwave creating interference on the cell phone signal. Didn't hurt anything. Now, I wouldn't go try any neat experiments like putting your phone IN the microwave (especially with the battery still attached), but walking by it while trying to talk on it could be difficult since the EM noise from the microwave pretty much clobbers the cell signal. Kinda like anyone that's got a 802.11 wireless LAN for their home and a 2.4GHz cordless phone. Phone rings -> wireless LAN signal gets squashed.
