Ok I finally was able to get my box all put back together after replacing all the seals. I poured new fluid into it and fired it up to remove the air in the system. Power steering fluid is dripping down the pitman shaft!!!! I think it is from the instructions in the kit that wanted me to tape the splines before sending them down through all the seals, I did this, but now I think there are pieces of tape stuck in where the seals ride, because sure as hell some of it tore off on the way down!!! Should I tear it down again? or head to the jeep yard to get a newer box???

I have removed and replaced the sector shaft on a few boxes and none of them leaked. I didn't take them or anything so it is up to you but I say pull it and remove the tape.

been there done that, I've come to the conclusion that it is either going to leak or not by using the tape so I don't use the tape fawk it its either gonna be good or bad either way so i take my chances now.
get the tape out of there

Try grease next time, I think it works a lot better. Good luck

take it back apart and get all that tape off. Make sure that there isn't any scoring or pitting on the sector shaft before you install it. Then pack it with grease and reinstall.

Well, I took the box apart last night and its a good thing that I did. I started to inspect the shaft and seal a bit more closely than before, and I missed some damage that could have really messed me up. There ar 4!!!! stress fractures in the sector shaft splines!!! One large and 3 small, I had somehow missed these and maybe even really missed them because of the tape. I will now be buying a newer box from the yard or maybe I will find a deal at a parts store. Thanks for everyones help.
Where did you get your seals and how did you ask for them? I have a leaky CJ box that needs seals. After I do my wiring harness (in progress), that's the next project.
Thanks,
Chris

I got the seals from AutoZone, i just asked for a steering box rebuild kit. The complete kit was the only one that came with new bearings the rest just came with seals.
sceep: I am beginning to think that full hydro would have been alot easier!!!:D
