hey brimy,

I had a detroit and it worked out very well. if you don't like having your jeep jump and move over to the lane next you (jokin) then a spool would work out even better. besides they are cheaper and can be just as strong.

if you are thinking about a spool then just weld it. cheap and that way if you are not happy with it you can buy the detroit and you havn't lost any $$$ unless you pay someone to set up your gears. i like spools/welded rears but if it is a daily driver i say detroit. just my op.

I am not scared:usa:

do they make mini spools to go in a Trac-loc?

My spool in the rear of my YJ makes me smile almost as much as the 38's that are turned by the spool. Spool it and forget it. Got Spool? :flipoff2:

Im curious, how is tire wear with a spool? Im thinking, going spool front and rear when I get my REAL axles, and go SOA.. but I'll have 36" TSL radials more than likely, so Im curious as to how long they will last, since the jeep is a daily driver and I dont want to buy tires every 6 months.

If ya do much drivin' on the street your tires will wear MUCH faster with a spool than an open diff....I've never personally ran a detroit so I don't know how it compares. But other than tire wear I'd run a spool in the rear of every vehicle I own....Cheap, Strong and more predictable handiling than an auto locker

I would NOT put a spool in front. I welded mine up as a tmep solution until I saved $$$ for an ARB, it was fine for a couple trips...but it got old very fast. Steering on granite isn't easy, and it tore up a couple axles every trip. Usually I'd just run with one hub locked, and then lock the other when needed...but the girlfriend got tired of constantly locking and un-locking the hub I finally coughed up the $$ for an ARB

Mini spool in a traclok? Good luck, just weld it up, spools are money, and money is good to have, so just weld it and forget it...

I just put a spool in the rear of my jeep. I got mine at summit for 189.00, just a fraction of the cost of a detroit.
