I just bought an a/c stick welder . Its been 20 years since I have seen a good beed . I need some tips on how to get a good beed in different positions . Say welding over head or straight up , even looking down . How to fill a hole . how to strike an ark without sticking the electrode . The shorter the electrode is the easyer its to get an arc going . I seem to get the flux mixed in every were . not on the top of the beed where it should be . When I gring my welds off I get pockets of flux in places it shouldent be .
can you weld sheet metal with a stick welder . can you fill holes in sheet metal with it . can weld stainless ?? I know this is some what off topic but it is for building jeep parts and need some
wisdom from welders . If ya want to flame thats ok I got my leathers on . I know somone will post good info eventualy .
by the way I did a multi forum search and diddent find much on stick welding .

You need to go to the crusier section or the general chitchat board and post this to the WELD PRO he is very informed and willing to share his information.
to answer your question about welding sheet metal with a stick welder yes you can with pratice you need to use a 6013 rod and fairly low heat setting. I am a mig welder not much of a stick welder. i belive you can weld stainless with the proper rod. I hope this helps you Jim Aka Wilseya.
