Here in AZ, most salvage yards will charge well over $1000.

I see them on Ebay for $600-$800 occasionally.

*Edit*... I have purchased two off of Ebay for $300. One was a complete front Ford Dana60, the other was just a reverse cut housing.

It's going to depend on how they price parts in the salvage yard and who is working the counter. We were lucky and pulled a Dana 60 HP off a Ford F250 for a set price of $149 at a Pick N Pull. Today we got a 9" axle complete and a set of Wagoneer springs for $100 as the guy just looked at it and made up a price. Good luck!

I gave $700 for the complete front I bought. The housing I gave only $100 for. Anything over a $1000 is too much in my opinion. But it kind of depends on how many 60's are around your area. We have lots around here and they still bring big buck.

there are virtually no built rigs around my area, and not a whole lot of wheelers, built or not. im hoping this will give me a better chance at finding one cheap.
now...anyone know about the bracketry part of my question?

You could cut off and reuse your existing brackets, or I think RE sells them new.

RE sells a set for around 300$ an axle I believe. Wasn't there some guy on here a while back talkin about makin TJ brackets for half the price of RE?

If I were you I wouldn't use a 78/79 because the inner axles are junk. Yes they are 35 spline but they taper down a bunch so shoot for a late 80's or a 90 something.

get pre 89 or whenever it was that they went to ball joints.

My front is an 86 and it is just right. look for 80's. It was 70in ms to ms tho. <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

For the price of the brackets new, why don't you fab your own or do a 4-link. If you are putting the 60 in your xj don't hold yourself back with the lame short high angle control arm set up.

killaho,
im running the re drop brackets for now. once i get things more situated, ill prolly change it to a long arm, but everyone who has the re brackets loves them to death, so im gonna give em a chance.

Hey John, I'm tryin to get one of those elusive axles before we hit Moab next month. Everyone around here wants a pretty penny for 'em though. Think about a parrallel 3 link in the front w/ a trackbar. That way you don't have to worry about mounting anything on top of the pumpkin and you don't have d-shaft clearance issues.

firstly....trailhawg..id like to see those pics. there are a couple guys in naxja with 38+in tires, with the re brackets, who wheel hard, and have no problems.

BellyUp...I have, or should i say, HAD, a dana 44 rear. right now, im holding pieces of the grenaded ring and pinion in my hand. im pretty sure it took my arbwith it too...right now im in a bit of a fix, i was going to build a corp 14 bolt full floating 8 lug for the rear, and hp ford 60 for the front...but this whole grenading the 44 has thrown a wrench in the gears so to speak.
it looks like im gonna have to blow my wad on a custom built 60 for the rear...cause i gotta get this thing back on the road asap...its my daily.
also, id love to get some wheelin done...as soon as im done with this crap, im due for a trip up to pitt. to see some friends...we should get ignorant then.
