: Commuting on closed Interstates

Damn, did I have an interesting ride to work!

Jumped on Colo Highway 119, and drove down through Black Hawk - saw nobody on the road. Continued down the hill, until I got to US 6. The "Downhill" direction was blocked off in one lane with cones, and there was a front-loader across the road, so I headed uphill, towards Interstate 70.

I would normally get on I-70 at Floyd Hill - the on-ramp was not plowed, and had about a foot of snow on it. No big deal, I drove down the ramp, as the Interstate was plowed (but no traffic). I got to the bottom of the on-ramp, and there's a four foot wall of ICE blocking it off.

So, I BACK UP the on-ramp, and cross the bridge to drive down US 40 - it's plowed (one lane wide). I snaked my way down to Evergreen, and got on I-70 at Evergreen - I saw ONE other vehicle on the Interstate. Just after Genesee, there was a CDOT crew with a massive snowblower, throwing snow across the median, onto the eastbound lanes - where I was coming down... They stopped to let me get by, and I had to drive in about a foot of snow they threw onto eastbound I-70. Finally got down to the Morrison exit, where I-70 is officially open.

It's like a battlefield out there! And it's gonna get worse before it gets better. When that shit starts melting, I-70 is gonna be like a river of slush...

:shaking:

HaHaHa - no, the four-door Sidekick. No lift, no mods, but it still does well in 4WD.

That's impressive! I have found that driver skill and common sense has a lot more to do with it than the vehicle. A few years back, I was driving a 79 RX7 on 6-8" of snow and had absolutely no problem, but I went slow and paid attention to what I was doing. I was driving by 4x4s thet were in the ditch.

I was thinking about buying a Sidekick, but there is not enough room behind the back seat for my wifes stuff.

Jesus, what does your wife carry? I have packed five backpacks behind the back seat, with five adults.
