: Ford Dana 20 to a Jeep T-18a??????
Cowtowner 11-12-2001, 09:31 PM Ok guys, will this work? Thinking about going to Mogs and need a drivers side drop TCase.
I know there are some issues with using a Ford T-18 with a Jeep Dana 20, but how about the other way around?
Anybody do this?
Cowtowner 11-13-2001, 08:57 AM BTT......come awn guys.......one of you Bronco guys aught to know, huh?
welndmn 11-13-2001, 09:39 AM well in theroy it should work,
but i have never heard it done before though
Lloyd 11-13-2001, 10:11 AM Bolt pattern on the back of the transmission cases is different, so there will be an adapter required. Since this isn't a common swap, you'll probably need a custom adapter. I think that the mainshafts are the same, but not sure; however since you'll be adding an adapter you'll need at least a spud shaft. Might be easier to do an Atlas.
cwate 11-13-2001, 11:51 AM Easier to run an NP435 (2wd), since its output shaft mates up with the spud adaptor shaft on the EB D20. All you need is an adpator, and it's a real popular one with the EB crowd.
AFAIK, you can mate the 435 to 258 or 4.0L, using the T176 bellhousing.

Cowtowner 11-13-2001, 12:14 PM Running a 304, will the 435 bolt to the 304?
themaddhatter 11-13-2001, 12:20 PM yeah with the T150/T176 bellhousing
If the pattern doesn't match, you could either find that one, or drill new holes.

Cowtowner 11-13-2001, 12:28 PM If I swap out to a 435, wouldn't it be just as easy to go with a NP205 or a 208 rather than a 20?

Lloyd 11-13-2001, 02:47 PM Why not just get a Ford T-18 case, put in your Jeep T-18 input shaft, and run the Ford mainshaft out to the Ford D20? The Ford case will bolt to the Jeep bellhousing if you drill and tap one hole in the bellhousing.
Cowtowner 11-13-2001, 03:16 PM I thought about the Ford T-18 swap......but I would really like to be able to just swap in a Ford Dana 20.....gotta be an easy way to do this. Might call AA tomorrow, but they are so freakin' HIGH
ItsaCJ6 11-13-2001, 07:03 PM The only problem with your current senario is the Jeep T-18 input shaft could be long. The Jeep T-18s have 15 different version unless you already own it I would go get a Ford 2wd T-18 and use the T-176 bellhousing. and order the adaptor.
Cowtowner 11-13-2001, 08:06 PM The t18 is in the Jeep.....trying to do a budget deal here.
fatkid 11-13-2001, 08:10 PM Mogs on a budget?
