Which is the best? I have heard lots of good and bad about eldo calipers... whats the real scoop? Anyone using the GM metric ones from monte carlos? Which ones required an MC change? We dont have inspections down here in GA / AL, so im open to anything

Depends if you want to retain a cable ebrake. I'm just going to use a line lock so I went with 3/4 ton GM calipers from the front of a 4x4 truck. I'm swapping them onto my 1 ton eaton rear end.

They use the Eldo calipers because you can modify your E-brake to work. They work fine when the cables work out. The GM calipers are from the front of a 84 Monte Carlo....I don't think they are "metric". The MC change comes into play when you get bigger axles-more fluid needed=bigger MC. You do have to use a "Proportioning Valve" to adjust brake bias to get them to work....:D

Well for now, it seems as though I will use standard calipers (non e brake) and eventually line lock it or when i get a slip yoke conversion on the np231 i will give jess a call about the driveline e brakes. We dont have inspections down here, but I still think an e brake would be nice.

I'm running Chevy 1/2 ton calipers on my rear D44, no proportioning valve. I also swapped in a dual diaphram vacuum booster and a master cylinder from an 87 Grand Wagoneer. My brakes have never been better! I have no emergency brake, but I did install 2 line-locks for a parking brake, I plan to install a second battery setup so I can leave them locked for long periods of time.
