From Tongue Tied on Foxnews.com

American Flags are banned in a gov't office of all places. And hey, let's write a pro-stupidy article honoring the life of a person too stupid to get out of the way of a bulldozer... For f's sake...

A worker in the Richmond City Hall who wanted to hang a flag in his office was told to take it down after co-workers complained that it was a de-facto endorsement of war that offended them, reports the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

Gary Burton and a friend hung a 5-foot by 8-foot American flag in their office, only to be told to take it down eight hours later. Three co-workers in the Bureau of Permits and Inspections complained about the flag throughout the day.

"The gist of [their complaints] is the flag is an attempt to make a political statement in support of the war. And they were opposed to the war," said Claude Cooper, the city's building commissioner.

Anti-American?

Students upset about an editorial cartoon in The Diamondback, the University of Maryland at College Park's student newspaper, staged a noisy sit-in at the paper's office and are demanding a public apology from the paper, reports The Diamondback.

The protestors are upset about an editorial cartoon about the death of pro-Palestinian activist Rachel Corrie. The cartoon labeled her stupid for "sitting in front of a bulldozer to protect a gang of terrorists." Corrie died while trying to avert an Israeli Army bulldozer from razing a house in Gaza.

The students said the cartoon was indecent and anti-American. In addition to the apology, they are demanding that the paper publish an article honoring Corrie's life.

If they put a full size picture of her on the newspaper, and put "actual dimensions" on it.... Would they be mad?

Are they also demanding the flag outside in front of the building be removed?

I'll support somebody who wants to burn a flag, but this is crazy.

Peace,
Paul

Can someone verify which Richmond this is? Because I wouldn't mind spending the time to find the contact information for the folks at the city hall there, and post it here for everyone's benefit.

Because I'm sure they'd like to hear our opinion on the matter.

The best part of that cartoon.... the paper said :flipoff:, you aren't getting an apology. Finally... a organization that will stand up to shitheads that don't like the truth.

btw - looking at those pics.... Anyone wonder if she would be alive today if they hadn't of picked her head/back up?

If you do, please let us know how it goes! Of all the places to ban a flag, they do so inside a gov't building. For f'sake.

What about the freedom of speech to put up the flag? How come their freedom is limited to place it up, but the freedom to have it removed is enforced?

All I can say is:

"Political Correctness has done more to limit Free Speech than any other person or government in power on the planet."

Kinda like after 9/11 when fire trucks in Berkley were made to remove the US flags they had on them because people complained and were offended...

You gotta love it, here on the one hand we have people coming to this country, working their asses off to become a US citizen and when they do they have to take an oath swearing their allegence to THIS country and THIS country alone. These people are PROUD TO BE AMERICANS!
On the other hand we have people born to US citizenship who could give a flying fuck about the country other then THEIR RIGHT to protest and THEIR RIGHT to freedom of speech, to hell with anyone elses rights because their's are more important. These people are ASHAMED TO BE AMERICANS!

Makes me feel like everyone should take the citizenship oath when they turn 18 and if they don't they get NO RIGHTS and NO BENIFITS but they do get IMMEDIATLY DEPORTED.

Aaawww... but you see...

My right to express myself through displaying a flag may offend someone, so I must take it down.

Someone's supposed right to never be offended ALWAYS out-ranks my right to free speech... UNLESS, and this is key, I am an unltra left wing liberal aethiest promoting the muslum beliefs while burning a flag and and upside-down cross....

See... it's a very fine line...
