I might be picking up a ram van with the 318. I am usnure of the Towing capacity. I will be using it to tow my XJ. I know alot of swb boys tow with vans. I am willing to beef the suspension and cooling up. I might even put a gold Jesus on the dash for added horse power. I will be using a light weight trailer or tow dolly. Thanks

I tow with a 1988 D-150 (pick-up) with a 318, backed by NP435, it does OK, but this is Texas---really flat---:jeep:

it will tow yes, comfortiably no! and dogg in the hills, but it should do the job for the time being. jiMMy

It should tow fine. My parents have one ( w/318 auto ) and tow a 21' boat with no problem. It even has 200k on it. It would do better with a tow dolly. No tongue weight,so you wouldn't need to beef up the susp. Just change all the fuilds and filters ( tranny to) maybe add a tranny cooler. My father bought the van new and has changed the oil every 3-4 k, tranny rebuilt at 110k, nothing else major.

I tow with a 2000 Dodge 3/4 ton with the 318.
Essentially the same motor I would think just slightly modernized. ;)

Tows fine...a little week in the hills, but not too bad.

Tongue weight will definitely effect ya!
Definitely put in a tranny cooler, and maybe rebuild the SOB if you plan on using it a lot.

should be ok...I flat tow my CJ all over with mine...wouldn't want to trailer tow too much though...the steering, and handling on these vans is fawkin whacky.

I say, barrow a trailer with the appox wieght you'll be towing. Test that bad boy out. I had a 85 I think it was. The last year for the electronic carb. It sucked for power. 89 is not that much more advanced. 318's are notorious gas hogs, they suck literally. I will go against the grain on this one and say NO. I think I would look elsewhere

Thanks for all the responses. My bud wants $300 for this van and it is suppose to be mint and run like a top. I figure If I have to put a few bucks in it and make do. I cant really go to wrong. Plus I can use the back of the van for shagging big black women.:D

I've seen Caravans, Aerostars, and Astro vans towing some pretty crazy stuff....so I would say, sure, why not?
