: Pictures of solid axle sidekick(finally)
SkyMfg 11-13-2001, 11:22 AM Finally figured out how to post pics, with any luck, I can
repeat the process. So, here is a few of our solid axle swapped
sidekick, running 35 12.5 ssr's. It has 5 leaf YJ's all around
, in shackle reverse. We have a 22r 5 spd and daul Toy case's
for drivetrain, soon a 4.3 will be swapped in, with 5 spd.

'80Toad 11-13-2001, 08:14 PM Are those coil buckets I see in the second pic?
Was there going to be coils? Did it not work?
I'm a Toy guy but next it'll be a zuk with a Toy drive train I think.
Nice rig.

Fatty, I had a 'Kick for a commuter for a couple of years - ran the piss out of it & I never gave me a minutes' truouble. Many of them come factory w/ power steering & comfy seats, AC, Etc. - some have auto tranny too if you're into the slushbox thing. They are very car-like, compared to a Samurai, but still have a full frame & beefier rear axle. Got a chain-driven t-case, tho but prototypes are being developed to put a Toy t-case right on the back of the 'Kick box = 3.652x1.8x2.28x5.13 = 77:1 with only One adapter and no fancy gears. Trow in a Marlin gear kit & you can have 158:1 Easy & Tough. Only catch is you gotta deal with the IFS. Seems like we are more like the Toyota's every day:rolleyes:
I think Trail Tough is selling a hybrid front axle w/ Dana endz or something - bound to be pricey, tho.
Hey Sky, why didn't you stick with the coils up front??

Price isn't set in stone yet, its fairly simple, mainly we
provide brakets and messurents with a parts list. We need
a few volunteers with different axle combo's to test this kit
out before we set a for sure price.
A sidekick rear axle can be used, many people go strait to 44's
though as the kit allows clearance of 37's in stock form, but there would be no reason a Trail Tough front axle coudn't be used. We
used a Toyota drivetrain because its what we had around at the time and an empty kick shell sitting here.
Coils were originally used, but we ran into positioning problems with the links, so we went back to the drawing board and came up with a leaf sprung combonation. Now that we know it works, were looking into a different link system.
The possibilities are endless with sidekicks, they are so much roomier than samurai's, and I'm 6'3" so room is a big deal, plus they have good power stock. The kick here is on 35 ssr's, and we have had 36 's on it with leaf springs, before with coils we had 39.5 swampers, but the hit the headlight buckets.

squirrelman83 11-14-2001, 09:19 PM Anybody know what the bolt pattern is on that TT hybrid? Brent??? I think that axle looks pretty sweet, and it has the best of both worlds... great ground clearance and D44 strength. Anybody know if they are planning on making a rear one, too? I'll definitaly be looking into one. ~Steve
fj40mon 11-14-2001, 10:12 PM I'd be a willing participant. Although I'm not wanting to go that high. I'm shooting for 33'' boggers. How much lift are you sport'n on this kick? I'd like to go with the yota axles.
Southern WA. near vancouver.

Alfred 11-15-2001, 08:44 AM hmmm...
is it just me ... or is the kick really tall and narrow:question:

Were still figuring the exact lift, somewhere around 12 inch's, best way to run 33's would be to do it SPUA with a small body lift, get around 8 inch's of lift, although it would probably be fine with 33's the way it sits, I'll throw my 33 inch boggers on this weekend ant take some pics.

is that a sidekick diff with 44 outers?
Why not just use toy or straight 44, why the hybrid?

Rear Sidekick center section with 44 outers (I think)
I'd be guessing, but I'd say they don't wanna use the Toy axle because it's wider & got more lugs.
Don't wanna use Dana cause it ain't Jap? (diff. cover)
It just goes to show you how far some folks are willing to go to keep their drivetrain as "Suzuki" as possible:rolleyes:

I woulnt want to go SPUA. Id rather go SPOA. I have a cruiser with SPUA and the springs drag on everything. Not to mention the hangers and shackles hang down to low and bang in to everything. Looking forward to the pic's with 33''s. Going twelve inches is a stability concern for me on the trail.
