ok I have a 95 XJ with 127k and it's all stock except for a rusty's budget boost with shackles an spring spacers.
I am having vibes when I get around 60 mph. it sounds like it's coming from the rear, but I'm not sure. I've checked the ujoints on the driveshafts and there is no play at all.
When I am going down a street, at any speed, when I let off the gas, there is a pretty loud "clunk" coming from the rear. It also makes the "clunk" when I get back on the gas.
I'm not sure how long it has been since I've had the tires balanced, but it probably needs it.
Also, I hear a popping sound coming from the front right. it usually happens when the suspension articulates on trails and it sounds like it's the control arm popping, but it's not loose or anything.
Any suggestions would help me.
Thanks,
Jared :D

Its a jeep its supposed to make those sounds. :flipoff2:
Seriously though...sounds like it could be a loose or bad motor mounts/tranny mount...I would check those. Just check all your suspension and everything make sure everythings tight.

Yes they could. Check your transmission mount at the same time, it's probably on its way out too.

no tc drop or sye. I'm only lifted <2 inches. I went to my local offroad place and ordered some daystar motor mounts. they don't look too hard to put in. I'll check out my tranny mounts tomorrow. thanks guys

jack up the back end put it in gear or park whatever and spin the tires back and forwards, if you get the loose feel without the driveshaft spinning its gear clearance or rearend bearing of some kid if it moves up top its t-case or tranny, if it feels solid then open the hood and watch the engine when you shift forward to back and apply a bit of power gaainst the brakes if it moves a lot its a mount.

well I replaced my motor mounts and the vibes only happen at 70 mph. it still does that clunk clunk crap when I let off the gas and press it again. I'm kinda thinkin it's the u joints now.

if you put shims in your rear end take them out.
replace ujoints
check rear end, could be a broken tooth.
you should change diff fluid anyways
