: Did I get scammed?
Erik D_lux 11-13-2001, 05:30 PM I returned an SSR under waranty to 4wph. They did a tread depth measurement and came up with 85% remaining. I told them I wanted to trade it for a 35 bogger. So what they charged me for is 15% of the cost of a new 35 SSR ($31) the differnce of the original cost which was $174 compared to $206 and also the difference of an SSR to Bogger $206 to $244  . So final cost they charged me
$31 for 15% of useagee
$32 for inflated price of SSR's
$38 for differnce of SSR to Bogger
If I were to buy a SSR new 2 yrs ago, have it fail on me without ever using it wouldnt they give me a new one of the same kind for free? Or would they charge me the inflated differnce even though it wasent used? (206-174 = 32)
My thoughts are that I should have to pay the difference of SSR to Bogger ($38) and I think it would be more then fair to pay 15% of a new cost SSR. ($31) So I think I should have paid $69 total. Everybody there looked at me like I was crazy. What do you think? Is this the way all prorations work or did I get scammed?
66CJdean 11-13-2001, 05:42 PM Well you would have to pay the difference between the old price of the SSR and what a Bogger costs so you were traiding in a tire you paid $174 for and wanted a tire that costs $244 so that should be what you get charged for + the prorated use of the SSR.? Right??
Rock Toy 11-13-2001, 05:46 PM I think you are lucky that they took the SSR back and sold you a new tire for less. I wouldn't be complaining at all if I were you...
Slick 11-13-2001, 05:52 PM Cripes dude.... be glad you GOT warranty service. I think they did you a favor letting you trade up for the extra cost.
wild1 11-13-2001, 05:53 PM If the tire was covered under warranty then I would say that they should be looking at the cost of a replacement tire not what you paid for it a couple of years ago. If you take a car into the dealer for warranty they dont charge you a few extra bucks because a new one costs more than your 2 yr old car do they? I dont believe in tire warranties for that same reason. It is that pro rated crap.

I think you're right, as long as the SSR design is the same, you should have gotten the present value of the SSR and then had to pay the Bogger dif. and the prorated dif. However, from what I've seen there are very few large companies in the fourwheeling world who don't stiff their customers on warranties. So like the other guys said, you may be lucky, but at the same time it couldn't hurt to chew off the manager's ear and tell him you won't give him anymore business.:D

You talk alot of sheet :flipoff2: did you get that PM?
Erik D_lux 11-14-2001, 08:17 AM Well thanks for the advice. I am a cheep ass is why I am so concerned. Sometimes I think we feel lucky to not be screwed by a dealer. I say screw that! We should get everything we deserve! But I was just looking for advice if I was right or not. Thanks
welndmn 11-14-2001, 09:49 AM i am fighting 4WPW and interco right now for a warrenty, GOD i swear i will never buy from them again, i will drive 2 hours to Les Shuab
StinkBug 11-14-2001, 10:15 AM i always get my tires at discount. i can bring em in almost bald with a slash in the side wall and they will give me a brand new one. all they charge is mounting and balancing and the new warranty, about $25.

Where's the nearest DISCOUNT store to your NORTH border????
Big O tires are like that as well, Tear the Sidewall, and they replace with an equivalent or Better(Including Brand New) tire.
That's cool stuff.
RockRover 11-16-2001, 09:41 AM Well, I've had mixed results with Discount...I live in Santa Fe, and it seems that EVERYONE brings in near bald tires with a mysterious gash in the sidewall...I have to admit, that I've partaken in the "opp's I tore 3 sidewalls in Cruses" trick. Now they are at the end of their managerial ropes, and did the same thing to me as the guy that started this thread...They told me that they purchased my last warranty claim (SSR's) at cost unbeknownst to me...I tried to upgrade, and they quoted me full retail for the upgrade, and were going to give me credit at wholesale for the claim (even though I originally purchased the tires retail)...
I could raise a stink fit about it, but I've gotten so many warranty deals in the past that it's time to pay the pipper..But if they advertise "FREE" replacement, then that's what it should be IMO.
