I'm starting on the SOA on my YJ.

I like the ida of extending the wheelbase (even if it is just 2") by redrilling the perches front and rear. Is it more of a headache and setting me up to break spring packs that its worth? I'm using the JC Whitney 6 leaf packs.

Why not move the perches. There is not alot of room to redrill the spring perches.

Actually the perches are sitting on my garage floor right now - locating them is not a problem. Not sure how I would 'relocate' them to move the axle fore and aft with that stoopid arc cut in them that just happens to match th axle tube diameter.

I'm talking something the like the MORE or RE extended perches that let you place the leaf centerpin slightly fore or arf of the axletube center.

Anyone out there that has actually done this?

I wouldn't do it... You'll break springs for sure! Either make custom perches (I did and also made my lower shock mount part of them) and drill them accordingly or relocate your spring hangers as far forward/rear as you can. I did all of the above and flipped my springs 180 deg. to gain wheelbase but that's on my FJ. As far as I know, the pins are centered on the YJ springs. I offset the hloe in the perch 1" front and rear to get an extra 2" and it has worked fine for me. I don't like the idea or the hasle of redrilling springs.

THanks for the comments. I won't redrill the springs - heard of too many breaking at the old hole.

Has anyone had problems caused by the extra leverage put on the spring when moving the hole in the perch?

I used the shackle type anti wrap bar and had no probs. with it. I think it's on woodys site, http://www.ih8mud.com good luck! :D

Just put on waggy springs. 2" offset center pin. Did that and a MORE shackle reversal on my YJ and got 100" wheelbase
