I am buying a 350 from a guy that has been rebuilt by a reputable company. I know I have a book at home that tells what to look for on the block and heads to tell for sure if it is a 350 vs 327, 305, etc. and what heads it has, but I can't get at that book right now. Can anyone tell me what to look for?

There is a flat pad on the top of the block in front of the passenger side head. Clean (i.e. sand) the surface and give those #'s to your dealer, who should be able to tell you what you've got.

Thanks, ya'll. I got a list of casting numbers for the heads and block online. I am going to buy the engine tomorow. I went last night to see how it ran, and it ran great! Less than 1000 miles, bored .030, 4x4/rv/towing cam + the TH350 behind it for $400. I'm just going to check the casting number on the block to make sure it's a 350 and then I'm bringing it home. 4-bolt mains, too!

The motor i already built for low end torque. But I want more power in general. (More RPM's, too.) It needs the carb rebuilt or a new one. Anyone got suggestions? My friend tells me Edelbrock everything.

I would check the lift/duration on the cam to see what your "window" of HP is. To get more torque you might wanna go to 1.6 roller rockers instead of the stock 1.5 ratio. You might wanna convert to a "roller" cam so you can "wind it up" without floating a lifter. Use a edelbrock "dual plane" intake with a "quadrajet" carb. they can run at "crazy angles" and perform VERY good when "tweaked" right. These are a few ideas for you.....GOOD LUCK  :D
