: wiring harness questions

I am putting my 95 4.3 cpi vortec into my 94 4 cylinder YJ. I am working on eliminating the stuff from the factory GM harness that I don't need any longer.
My main concern is that I will remove something that seems like I dont need, like the airbag system wires, or the heater wires, VSS wires, and then find out I need to do something with them.
Does anyone have any tips here? Done this, and maybe can tell me what wires I can chop, and what to leave? Maybe need to put some resistors in somewhere, or jumper stuff?
Thanks in advance, I really appreciate any help.
Err, and if this really belongs in the jeep section, you can yell at me and let me know that too.

This is a good Q for the chevy forum.

VSS you need
air bag is trash
heater is trash
A/C you may need if you wat the throttle to kick up for A/C or OBA
I believe the oil pressure sender is shared between ECU and guage
Cruse control is trash also
Nuetral safety you can just ground according to many on this site
what else?

I am figureing it out as I go along on my tbi454.

actually, I am saving the cruise. :) This rig gets driven daily, and is also used every weekend for driving across the state. I had been using a hand throttle for that, but I will not be anymore.
If I could find a way to make the idle kick up automatically when the york gets fired up, that would be terrific. The york gets put in when I do the install too, since I am eliminating the stock ac.

Oh, and what exactly does the VSS get connected to. I thought it was going to the sensors on the wheels, or is that for ABS?
I think I heard somewhere the VSS is connected to the transfer case, and if that is the case, then I might be able to work that out. I am using half of the chevy case, and half jeep.
So, to recap:
vss-save, but connect to (dunno)
cruise-saving, reusing if I can
airbag-ditch
nuetral safety-can ground, or leave on, whatever I end up doing
heater-ditch, using jeep wires for that
ac-keep if I can, connect to york for idle kick up?
oil pressure sender-keeping, part of jeep gauges. Can go custom if I need to.

I plan on reusing the jeep gauges, at least the speedo and tach if I can. I can replace the cluster gauges in the middle with aftermarket units easy enough.

Vss goes to t-case. You probably have to get an adapter that runs off the cable driven speedo I think. I havnt really gotten that far yet. :flipoff2:

By the way Ford VSS used both a sencer and a cable in a lot of earlier 90s models. Might be a place to look

steve, the 1992 unit was a non-vortec engine. Still a great engine though, super torquey. Bit heavier than a vortec IIRC. It is a TBI, as opposed to the later cpi, then tpi in 96 and up.

Charlo, I thought the np231c from the 95 and up used an electric speedo? No worries though, that half of case is going to be jeep side, as the internals are also. This way I can keep the speedo from my 94 YJ.

Err... I will get there somehow. :) Going to work on it now.

Sorry Michael
but your wrong. 92 was the first year of CPI vortec. I'v got a 93 s-15 jimmey and the 92 s-10 I bought wrecked was identical in look as well as the Hanse book I have has 2w different configs. Up to 91, and 92-93

cool, learn something every day. :)
I was wrestling with the harness some more last night, and I almost gave up. I was starting to think the centech was not priced too badly. LOL.... but, my buddy was there, and he egged me on. So, going on night #5 working on it, we shall see how it turns out.
When I got to the pcm, behind the kick panel, it was all wet. But the board looks okay, no corrosion, buildup, etc. It spent about a year outdoors. Ughh.. If it doesnt work, I can get another one from a yard somewhere I hope. I tried to keep the truck covered, but the city fined me for having a truck with a tarp covering the cab. Jerks. So I removed the tarp. I should have just gotten one for the inside of the truck. Live and learn.

'92 was a split year, early '92 was TBI and late '92 was Vortec.

Not all 92 and 93's are Vortes though. Just an option. Brett
