I have a ford ranger with a solid axle up front, and want to swa in a 9", but dont wana cary arround two spare tires for two axles with different lug patterns. I could (1) Drill a steel rim with both patterns. or (2) i could get the 9" re-drilled to 5 on 4.5...
Thanx :usa:

For prices on axle and drum redrilling check the Moser engineering website or the Dutchman motorsports website.

seems easier to change the front axle to 5 on 5.5, what is it?

The only solid axle I can think of that is 5x4.5 is a jeep later model (post CJ) dana 30  why you would swap one of these in I don't know
Maybe you should look for a new front axle, a wagoneer 44 should bolt right in place of that YJ axle(if htats what you got) and can be converted to 5x5.5, and they are so cheap it may be worth the cost over getting axles drilled
or just call up moser and see what they can do

my best bet is that he has a 44 up front in his ford ranger

Actually if you must know, i am running a dana 30, with 4.10's has held up great! Mash and Bash the thing all the time! runn 33's. I plan on going with 35's next spring / late winter, and i know for a fact that the HEEP axles will not hold. So i will be going 9" and 44, but since the dana 30 has held unbelieveably well, i thought about getting a 9" for 75$ wih 4.10's and having the axles and drums re-drilled to 5 on 4.5

By the way, no one except the 1st guy actually answerd what i asked...
Why not just call a local machine shop and ask 'em? This isn't rocket science where only a few people can do it right. Saves you the trouble of shipping your stuff to Moser or who ever.
