MORE PICS (http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p=6&uid=870615&)

well...took 2 months to the day to get the corners...wonder if it was worth all the hassle/delays? you tell me! I got the leds/1" BL complete. Kilby gas skid after paint. The body shop got it 4/4...I've decided to go black gloss on rockers, skids and bumpers and flares. light khaki on corners. reflective red vinyl behind the spyder. I'm just going to install flares w/wire ties...easy removal for trail...what you think? oh yeah...lights just to melt those rice burners that cut you off and think you can stop on a dime... TJ

I think...

1. That is a hell of a lot of work to do for an "Out of the box" wheeler.

2.All that purty paint is gonna get FAWKED up if you really wheel it.

3.Those are some BIG ARSE lights up there on that bumper...WTF are they for?? Late night ball game?

:flipoff2:

I'd have to agree on the lights - they won't last long... The first time you try and put your front tires somewhere and the light s get there first .... crunch!

I use to run lights on my front bumper too!! 3 sets later... I have learned my lesson!

Po' riggity
03-31-2003, 01:28 PM
I'm sure they are the stock 44's front and rear. We've busted our stock 44 up front 3 times with the stock 31" MTR's on the shop rubi, and DC won't cover it under warranty, on an ALL stock rig, because they say we abused it, even though we just used it like it was advertised to be used. Anyway. Looks good, although I wouldn't bother to spend 30k on a rig, just to bash it in the rocks.

I'm kinda speachless. I mean, I like the rig and all. But why? How much have you spent total? Could you have done it cheaper, gotten the same product, and gained a little more respect from fellow offroaders? Personally, I would have started with a TJ, and worked up from there. I wouldn't have started with a TJ Rubicon, and voided the warranty.

He did get it very reasonable as far as price......we sold him most of the parts. What he wanted was top shelf parts and thats what he got, and he now has one of the nicest Rubi's around...this is America and people can do what they want. We wheel with a guy who has a Hummer H1..and he beats the piss out of it...and it cost him 80K....who am I to say what he can do?......All I can say is that he has a great time when he comes out with us.

As far as the comments on the lights...we have seen them take way more abuse and impacts than your typical off road lights since they have Lexan lenses.

Why do I care if some other dude is wasting his money or not? I don't. I'd rather see a $30K Rubi in rocks than sitting in a parking lot. And all the while, I'll be thinking... "I'm glad I'm not paying for it." But hey... Some other dude's money.

Its cool that you spend your money your way. I'm just against the rubicons and think they are POSs. I just don't believe spending $30k on a "offroad ready" jeep to have the warranty voided....you could have spent less for something else.

But its your money...who gives a shit what others say.

30K for a stock rig, then dump another 5-10 into it and you still have a 4500lb POS with crappy axles. The front is a POS that can hardly be called a D44 (hummm usually D44's have D44 knucles) and LP front and rear, but its your rig dude. Some people just have too much money. Plus even more people say they are "wheeling" and just go out and do this lame. dirt road driving, no big obsticals version of wheeling.

I have seen more then enough Rubis driving Green trail at the Badlands or playing in the Quarry calling it wheeling to say this: Post the pics of wheeling worthy of what you just built or stay in the mall lot.

Yeah, come back when you have some real pictures of it wheeling. And I have to agree with CA-YJ on all point of that front 44 being a big piece of CHIT. I've seen about 4 or 5 u joint failures alone on that bastard D44 front, which leads me to believe, upon inspection of the front axles, that there is a design flaw in the stub axles of that D44. Especially since all but one of the failures happened on bone stock rigs, with the factory 31" MTR's, and the wheeling that was being done was not that hard. Seems kinda odd, when you think about it. My HP D30 front has the SMALL 260 joints, and I hammer it hard with 35" MTR's and Ive only broken two. That alone tells me there is something seriously wrong in the front axle of the rubi. Just my opinion though.

From what I hear on the rubi front 44's they are 30 spline inners and 27 spline dana 30 outers. yes and with that funk center section you cant swap anything into. Definetly not a good move on DC part to try and take the rubi to the next level.
Why come out with yet ANOTHER different center section.

Hardcore is a state of mind. If you try for it you will never achive it.... If you strive for it you simplyt do not get it. Hardcore is not what you have or where you wheel it, there is more to it then that.

I should be there the Saturday before easter beating my stock CJ to death yet agin. Maybe if I am lucky I will have power steering by then....

Where are you getting $40k from anyway? Have you checked pricing lately (http://www.rockcrawler.com/features/newsshorts/02july/jeep_rubicon_pricing.asp)? I love when these guys with 50 posts who have been here for two months tell everyone "how it is around here".

I think that TJ's Rubi is sweet. I would have done a couple of things a little differently but all in all, you've got a really nice rig there. Have fun with it and run whatever trails you want to.

i like that rubicon. i would love to have one. even though they are only $25,000 new, its a little too much for now. i wouldnt do any body work or anything, just lift, tires, winch and gears. then wheel it till it breaks and runs out of warranty.

I'm not gonna say anything to cut either guy down, but you said he shows pics of his back yard creek? Well WTF is that? Your pic sucks just as bad. Sorry stating the obvious. However I am sure you have been places worse than that beacuse I know Zuki's can wheel.

to everyone else, what is the deal with this board? theres a lot of good info trading hands here, people sharing wheelin experiences and such, but what the heck if up with all the flames all the time? give the guy a break he has built a good looking, capable vehicle the way he wanted to and all you guys can do is bitch bitch bitch. whoever said "hardcore is a state of mind" you have been listening to too many music stereotypes like punkrock "you cant be punk, its just a lifestyle". you can say you "think" its a waste of money, you can say you "think" he wont wheel it, but you cant say it IS a waste and he WONT wheel it because those are opinions not facts. and im sure a bunch of youwill sit at your computers, thinking how great it is that you "hardcore" wheelers are better and know more than us"noobies",but come on lets all just share our stories, little CONSTRUCTIVE criticism and have fun wheeling instead of bitching about who is better or who has the best rig.

Dude I have run every trail multiple times on that 44 front and no breakage. Since then I sold it and built a new one. D44's are not bad axles. Throw some Warn's and CTM's in there and you can hammer it without worrying.

But then again you can hammer it right now without worrying, cause wheeling 33" thornbirds in your backyard isn't gonna break anything.

not everyone is wheeling like you, in fact, i know 2 persons who broke d44, and they both said they were snapping the gas pedal and giving those axles a bad day... d44 are OK for most people, and i'd build a d44 or an 8.8 for my TJ before a d60, because if i break a d44 shaft in a trail, i'd probably find someone carriying a spare (like i do right now for my d35c...)

wow ... time flies when you're having fun, (kinda fun reading thru all the old posts) I thought I'd drop by with the latest ... ironically I have gotten all kinds of warranty work done ... rear locker, 4 sets of front axles (short side 3 times, long side once, finally superior made a replacement and the superior's are holding up fine) starter, clutch fan, front hubs and ball joints. in-dash replaced twice. :flipoff2:

I ditched the stadium lighting (although they still look new even after many outings) other updates ... ORFab cage, currie steering, currie anti-rock, superior axles in the rear (moser's twisted too) psc front stinger and psc flatfenders. beginning of the season I rattle can camo the rocker, bumpers, etc ...

I just lost a bolt on July 3rd on the UCA at the t-case and twisted the bracket off the axle on the drivers side for the trac bar-UCA. so I'm going to triagulate the rear with clayton's truss and new UCA's.

And built a more capable rig for about half the cost.

And for all the people that are going to bring up the cost debate..STFU!! Who gives a flying fuck how much dude wants to spend on his initial rig.

"For half the cost I coulda...."
For twice as much as I spent building my flat fender I could have built a comp buggy that held 1/2 as much beer. It's all about perspective.

wow ... time flies when you're having fun, (kinda fun reading thru all the old posts) I thought I'd drop by with the latest ... ironically I have gotten all kinds of warranty work done ... rear locker, 4 sets of front axles (short side 3 times, long side once, finally superior made a replacement and the superior's are holding up fine) starter, clutch fan, front hubs and ball joints. in-dash replaced twice.

I just lost a bolt on July 3rd on the UCA at the t-case and twisted the bracket off the axle on the drivers side for the trac bar-UCA. so I'm going to triagulate the rear with clayton's truss and new UCA's.

my latest rear pinion angle
