jdjanda 11-14-2001, 07:11 AM Do you avoid them or wheel with them? Do you sell parts to the Heep crowd. No you can’t have my PS box. How do you deal with the other guys.
Personally I enjoy wheeling period, so to me it does not matter the type of rig's in the group but the people, I was even spanked by a Yota with no hard feelings. I know the feelings are not always reciprocated, more so by new to the sport owners. You do have to learn to deal with "is that a Heep" and the stares from the parts counter guys. Owning an orphaned rig can be a challenge and one of the most oft asked questions by new owners, or those considering buying one; is "How do you get parts for that thing" The best answer is own more then one.
Parts is parts, I glad the Heep guys love the Scout axles, I know when the time comes for new axles I'll get my money out of the Scout II axles. :D I just whish you'd guys keep your Scout's more stock and restore them. It does bother me when I know a Heep owner is sizing my rig up for parts.
pablo955 11-14-2001, 07:19 AM I will wheel with anyone, and anything, as long as they have some common sense about it. The only time that I won't wheel with someone anymore is if the just have no respect at all for the safety of others, or they do something dumb like completely drive off the trail. Hey, I have even know IH owners who I don't care to wheel with anymore on those grounds alone.
I am a member of an "IH only" type of club (RMB), and I am a member of a "we say we'll take any vehicles, but we all drive J**Ps" type of club (Creeper Jeeper Gang), and have had a blast wheeling with groups from both. When you're a minority as it is just because you drive an IH, you often don't have room to be picky about who you will or won't wheel with - otherwise you get left behind.
Besides, the difference in vehicles can be good for a little freindly banter now and then about how "my farm implement just stomped your $30,000 J**P", and things like that.:D

I'm going to quote that and say "Ditto":D
Thanks Aubrey..saved me from typing a little...
Also, I can't really be picky..not much IH is left in my ride.
nwmud 11-14-2001, 08:13 AM I'd wheel with anything but an *$%hole :flipoff2: Last year one one of our first runs with the 2BigBroncos, we were playing in some mud when a Hummer and Unimog pulled up. They had been drinking for a while and were a little out of control. Saw the unimog almost run over his own child - followed by wife bashing him pretty good.
 is for after your done wheeling. But wheel with all makes. Wife has 82 Full size Bronco, I'm building a Scout II and currently drive a 87 Dakota 4x4. I have to say 4x4 cause it's one of those trucks that advertises it's a 4x4, but can't do the things we do. Keep the rubber side down.
Ritch
RustoleumWhite 11-14-2001, 08:18 AM MOST of my wheeling up here is with other rigs. Other than Hooper, Scoutilac, and Scoutaholic, not many other binder owners running trails with us regularly (not that I've been out in a while :( :( )
Luckly, the crowd I usually run with is super cool. Many of them on this board. They are tolerant of ALL rigs, and many of them have been instrumental in teaching new wheelers the ropes. Myself included.
Most of them respect Scouts, as they know what they can do. They have their limitations on the tight NW trails, but can hold their own with good driving.
There is the natural banter that goes on between us, we all trash talk each other's rigs, but that shows the comradely that we DO have.
No I DO like spanking the arrogant ones with the "built" rigs, especially with their lockers any my open diffs...... :D
I remember a group of toys running a trail ahead of us once....... couldn't make it up a rock face. I think only one Jeep did with out a cable, yet our group of binders came and 1... 2... 3... 4... of us popped right up. One didn't but then her rig was less built than the rust of us.... she's working on that <g>

Tight trails, are you afraid of a little fender messaging?
RustoleumWhite 11-14-2001, 10:14 AM Why Fawk it up the sheet metal if you don't have to.
Just because I'm "get'n it awn!!" doesn't meen I have to purposly beat the sh*t out of my rig.
I don't :crybaby2: when I do, but I try to avoid it.....

If I only wheeled with IHs, I'd be wheelin' alone.
I have the only one on the trails in Helena, and not too many more in the state association, either.
So I wheel with Broncos most often. We have the 5 on 5.5 brotherhood thing goin' on. :D
Only problem is, we can almost never get any J**ps to come play with us. I think they're all afraid of getting shown up by "too-big" Scouts n' Broncos that "won't fit on a Jeep trail", or scratching their paint..
Or maybe it's a V8-thing? :D
Somewhere I have a picture of a flatfender Willys winching my Travelall out of a snow bank though. :D
Hooper 11-14-2001, 11:56 AM Last trip out, toy pickup, chevy K-5, two scout II's.
Anyone who wants to wheel responsibly and have fun.
Don't like wheeling with the really big purpose built rigs though. I either hold them up too much, or beat the snot out of my rig trying to keep up.
Hayraker 11-14-2001, 12:34 PM The rigs I have wheeled with are Suzukis, Toyotas, and Jeeps. Only run across another scout on the trail one time and there were two of them, I couldn't believe it, couple of nice guys to with nice rigs.
I will run trails with any type of rig as long as it is set up for the trail that we are running.
Most of the rigs I run with are set up better than mine anyway:D

Hayraker,
Can I steal that pic for the SSII registry? Is it a factory SSII or conversion. Also, whose is the blue SSII behind you?
0ILBURNER 11-14-2001, 01:09 PM Rigs are like people - come in all shapes & sizes.
If you can't get along because of some purist bug up yer butt, you will find it hard to have a good time.
Besides, weren't IH's made from leftover parts from the other manufacturer's?:D

Neither one of the scouts are mine, but you are welcome to the picture, they are both conversions however. I can't even remember where these guys are from but the picture was taken in Clayton OK a couple of months ago. I also found a picture of the same two scouts in last months Four Wheel and Sport Utility magazine in an article about a trail ride in Colorado.

Listen man, I know that you are in California, but you should still know that steers do not have wheels:flipoff2:

NotQuiteSane 11-15-2001, 09:02 PM I've met a few "if you don't drive a jeep, you're nobody" kind of guys, but the majority I know don't care as long as you wheel.
but I'm also the only IH on the traild when I can wheel.
so I can't be picky.
