Haha.. I've always hated that term...

I wanted to ask you guys that are with the PD or Sheriff department how the training was. I am joining the Sac Police Academy in September. I'm not in the best shape but nothing a little conditioning won't fix. I found some information but it just gives an overview of the whole thing. I was curious to know what your personal experience was like.

Thanks.

My Dept. has a program called pre-academy training that worked wonders for me. It was on Tue and Thur nights from like 6-8 and a couple of the instructors would take everybody through an academy pt session. I wnet to every session for about six months while I was in the hiring process. Call the training staff and see if they have something similar;)

Will do. Thanks.

I think I saw something about this on their website but it's only held 3 times a year.

I also have to purchase my own firearm. I've read a ton of good info here and I am leaning towards a Glock or the Beretta Vertec but am not certain.

Beretta 92FS;)

It's not exotic or cool, but I'm a Beretta Inspestion Tech and feel that it's a very well made and DEPENDABLE gun;)

Good. I just read some great reports about their guns. Your reply probably just cinched it.

Look! It's even got a little tab on the butt for your key ring! How cute!

Yup.. I can't wait. I'm even going to have a special ring made for it. :flipoff2:

The one I'm ordering has no butt.

My buddy went through the LA Sheriff's academy back in 2001. They had him running alot, but he worked up to it.

I don't think that he ran over 5 miles in a day.

Guaranteed you'd smoke any of the athletics if you did the Navy Seal training program. (http://navyseal.s5.com/workouts.html) Even if you can't start out at that pace, you can work up to it.

My buddy had a great time 'cause a few of the instructors were ex Marines (one was a former DI) and I fed him with every good marine joke I could think of.

Here is a link to the minimum requirements in IL. The Power test... But at the academy, there is more training.. I'm a lil more than a year off from heading to the academy, depending how quick I get hired.

get a Glock-

I personaly hate the double action/single action transition on a Beretta 92. If it's permitted, the G22 makes a fine duty gun, and you can buy the full cap mags for less than $20.00 on PD letterhead. My pistol instructor, Chuck Tayor, has over 150,000 rounds thru a Glock 17- he set out to PROVE they were not as reliable as a 1911 and ended up proving just the opposite :D

The Modesto CHP academy was easy compared to boot- I went thru it while in the USCG. Just make sure you have good running shoes-
