: dana 30 questions

im running my stock 30 up front on my 92 cherokee. i heard that 95 and later cherokees have dana 44 axle shafts and u-joints, is that true, if so would you recomend the upgrade

yes i do believe the 95 and up have the 272? shafts and joints

i would recomend upgrading when you brake your originals

They are the same size shafts, just use the bigger 297 joint.

Just bigger u-joint, if you change shafts you'll also loose your weak two piece axl disconnect system and change seals.

you can pull your axles out that have 260 joints and throw in axles with 297's. then save the old for trail spares. NO a D30 doesn't have D44 axles:flipoff2:

you can always get the ARB locker with the 30 spline axle shafts though (and then have the same size as Dana44's)

I don't think a 44 swap is really that bright for replacing a dana 30. Built it once and built it right: Dana 60. :D
