Need pictures, links, advice etc. A friend is looking into
having us do one on his 2001 crew cab. I know ORU has done a few and thats great, but they don't really tell you much when you ask questions, except that its $35,000....

seems like it would be just like any other solid axle swap, just watch out for the front crossmembers and plan the steering out very well. You might want to get custom springs made to take some of the guess work out

Saw this S-10 @ the car show last weekend
This S10 was one of a kind, i never saw a Solid axle under one with 31 inch tires, and a why did he put the shackles in front?

then on tht same S10 if you don't have a bender or any sort of common sence, just get a 2x4 box steel and make that your shock mount

you can see the that he swapped in a dana 30 (gee good choice!) also he still has a lot of IFS stuff there, in fact if he were to hit a speed bump his front axle would hit the frame!

Try the Dakota Mailing list http://www.dakota-truck.net/
They talk about drag racing and things alot but there are some people on there that have done straight axle swaps. I have a 96 w/ a 318 I use for a tow rig.

holy sh!it!!!! that thing is horrible! mine may have nicely fading paint, but at least i did my SAS with some planning! stock s10 rear shackles in the front, what appear to be tack welds on his shock mount, and 31's? you just dont swap in a solid axle for 31's... fawkin :rainbow:

We might put a straight axle and 37's under a customers 2005 Dakota. He deciding weather he wants to go that route now. If we do the swap we'll post pics and a guide to how we went about doing it. For now we're looking to get 4 custom leafs made and convert to a older 1500 or 2500 steering setup for the front end. Like someone said above all you can do is cut everything off the frame and work from there. This is gonna be a show truck so to keep the cost down were not doing a coil over or any link setup.
