: Rock buggy driveline...

I found a '96 Dodge 2500 Passenger van at a boneyard that seems to have a complete drivetrain including a F.I. V8 that doesn't seem to have been touched. I'm looking into engine options for a rock buggy I'm building from a Jeep YJ frame. I would like to use an automatic and if possible use no expensive adapters to hook a tranfercase or transmission up.

Is this engine a good find or should I keep looking?

What other drivetrain components should I look for to make this engine work?

Thank you,

Jeremy

Not a bad choice.

You could run a 727 tranny from any smallblock dodge, with the Jeep tailhousing and bolt a Dana 300 or Atlas right on, without expensive adapters. Could make for a stout and cheap setup.

It could have a 727, the full size vans were the last chryco vehicles to have the three speeds, they were available up through about the 97 MY.
