Hi, i'm just woundering if a bed-lock is locked on the inside and out side, or is it just on the out side with a regular bed on the inside?
thanks.:roxy:

I'm assuming you mean "bead"lock. Most, such as MRT and Champion, only have the beadlock on the outside, with a regular bead on the inside. I run 15x8 MRT's with 2 inch back-spacing and I love 'em. :smokin: ~Steve

I dont know I'm the one that should talk since I dropped like $600 for a set but with something as light as a sammi you might not really need them. Dont waste the money on beadlocks unless youre popping beads because I noticed that some of the guys I wheel with dont have em and run just as low as I do. Just an idea, because then again I never wheeled it without em.

I decided on beadlocks after seeing a couple of home video rollovers at Tellico. Two rolls happened on Trail #11 (Helicopter Pad) because the drivers got kinda crossed up and the right rear bead came off..... Crash, Boom. I was ordering 2" backspaced wheels already, so I went ahead and had beadlocks put on 'em.;)

I would Never PAD!

There is no question about it, beadlocks look trick. Just can't see spending the money yet.

Go with a stiffer tire like a bogger....at 7psi i would loose a bead at least twice a trip, running 33x14 on a 10" rim!
These 37x13 on a 10" beadlock, i have run them at 2 psi!

I never had a problem loosing the bead till I went to the Swampers. They are a stiff tire but I was also told the bead isn't the best, not much surface area in contact with the rim. I had a friend make me some of his internal beadlocks. He basically smooths out the rim where the bead sits and builds it up with fiberglass and resin. It's a 4 part process, with sanding everything back smooth after each drying session and on the final application sanding a new safety bead in. What you end up with is a really tight fit on the bead (the guys at the tire shop just LOVE trying to seat the bead for the first time :D ). He eventaully came up with this procedure after loosing the bead and spinning the tires on the rims while at the Dunes (He's running a homemade coiled flatfender, twin turbo V8, paddles at the dunes, 38" swampers everywhere else). The best part is it's only $50 a rim.

Another tip he passed along was that on some Swampers there are some radial lines along the edge that prevent a good seal between the edge of the tire and the outer lip of the rim. He suggested applying some silicone to fill in the gaps or sand the lines down.

I've even run em at 0 psi at the dunes.

Wow, ran them flat and they still stayed on the rims? FWIW I ran my BFG's down to 4psi in the rocks and don't think I ever heard them burp air thanks to their paper thin sidewalls. I didn't dare go lower for fear of wrapping too much tire around the sharp rocks.

I ran the hell out of them, I even caught some serious air and blew the front shocks out and broke the shock towers off. BFG's really hook up when you run em down in 4's

If you are loosing a bead at least once every time you go out, then get them. If you just want to keep up with the Jones's, forgetaboutit.
