I tink I broked my front lockright. has anyone else had this problem and was it warrantied. while in four wheel drive (and yes my hubs were locked in and not broken) my drivers side front tire wasn't turning and the passenger was. There was a loud popping coming from the differential. I've inspected everything and found a small crack in one of the inside lockright gears. Has this happened to anyone else and was it warrantied?

Pull it. Anything busted should be replaced free of charge from where you got it. I'm pretty sure that's their deal.

yea, that's what I think too. but I'm not sure if I should try to go through powertrax directly or go back to the place I bought it, in which case I have to find the damn receipt! I think I have it though.....shit.

I broke a chEE-Zee locker, but out of warranty. Not impressed with these and don't want another. Best thing to do with one is to weld it up and call it a mini-spool.

When I bought my last lock-rite a couple years back, they came with a 2 year warranty.

yep lockrights have a 2 year warranty I would def. go back to where you bought it and see if they will give you another but more than likely they will send it back to tractech. I broke one in a samurai a year back from national tire I called them and they said if I wanted to speed things up to send it to tractech directly. I did and they responded by saying improper setup (bull shit) and sent it back all it did was break the pins, they never offered to send new ones even though it was under warranty. Several of my friends like 8 have had the same problem and we are ase certified still improper install every time. We never bought one again went to arb and have broke them but they always fix it or replace it no questions ask:rasta:

Powertrax sucks.

There is a code stamped on them that they look at to see how old it is. Last I knew, they had a 2 year warranty. I talked to the retard on the phone and told him I didn't have a receipt. He said no problem send it in. So I did. He said it I should get a new unit in about a week. Month later my old locker shows up missing pins and springs. Nice little note came with it denying the warranty. The locker was over two years old, no reciept, axle shaft moved causing the cracked coupler(locker eliminates c-clip), blah blah blah, etc.

It was a fawking hairline crack on a virtually new locker. Since the D28 units tend to set on the shelf awhile, the warranty was expired before I even bought the damn thing. I had owned it almost exactly 2 years. My reciept disappeared after a couple of moves, and I had no idea where I bought the thing.

Anyway, a friend of mine that works at a 4x shop hooked me up. He warrantied it for a Dana 44 locker. I'll use the bastard till it breaks, but I'll never buy another one.

Actually, I had a dana 60F lockright go bad because of the kingpin bushing being worn out and the lower bearing ...uh, being destroyed. It caused the knuckle to sit off center and caused binding of the axle against the spindle and rounded the edges of the teeth on the lock right.I sent it back and despite it being over two years out of warranty the said they would help me out. They sold me all the parts to a new dana 60 front lockright(pins, springs, both drive gears ,both side gears, and one of the two little spacers that go inside the drive gears) for $150 bucks new.Plus, they warrantied the new components for an additional two years. That is my experience with them. They helped me out considering they sold my a whole new locker minus one little spacer( that costs 15 dollars) for 1/2 of a new one.
Also, unless the lockright is set-up to the exact specifications in the manual it will go bad and they can tell if you don't have it set-up right..it seems the lockrights for axles from a dana 44 and smaller don't hold upto well. But, for the 60 and 70 they hold up just fine..unless set-up improperly...
Still, I have heard horror stories about people being told theirs was covered and getting their old one back with some little note..Anyways, i hope this helps as this is just one person's experience. Just remember being nice will get you a lot farther sometimes when dealing with these situtations...But, when and if the time comes that things don't work out :mad3: ...lay the hammer down...heck drop the f-bomb if need be:nuke:

Powertrax did offer to sell me just the new coupler, for like $40. It's better than nothing. It wasn't offered in the letter though. I had called to see what's up and that's one of the options they gave me. Their customer service really does suck. It wasn't like I nuked it, or it was worn out. Look at all the bad press they are getting. If they would have just warrantied the thing, I would refer people, and probably bought another in the future. Not now though. :flipoff:

I broke an EZ-locker awhile back. It was still under its 1-year warranty but I believe the warranty is only valid on 32" and smaller tyres.

Anyway, I brought it back to 4WP with the invoice that also showed the purchase of my 35" tyres. They didn't even flutter an eyelid and gave me a brand new locker on the spot.

Definately try to take it back to the place you bought it first. If they won't do it , you might try a few other offroad shops. They can pretty much warranty anything if they want to. I think

For future reference. Make sure you keep your reciept somewhere's safe. What gets me is I know the reciept is in the box with my old spider gears. A friend need those gears and I looked high and low for that fawking box. I'll probably find it next time I move. Untill then, I guess its somewhere safe!

Speaking of somewhere safe, I found $250 in my dress shoe one time. Of course I only wear em about once a year. Damn that was nice!

BUMMER DUDE!!!

Call Powertrax and see if they will send you a new piece. (But you gotta tear into it to see what exactly is broken.)

From what I heard Powertrax is easy to deal with directly on the phone. Either way, it's gotta be better than TracTech. A-HOLES! :flipoff2:

I blew my D44 Lockright up about 2 years after I installed it.

Sent it back and they replaced the broken coupler and shear-pins - even AFTER I told them how I did it..

In a SII, front lockright, backing up a steep rock face (700+lbs of 'Binder motor on the front end).. I was on the gas, hit some loose rocks, spit 'em out, then suddenly "hooked up"

BANG.

Hub shot off and hit a bystander. U-joint caps shot out the front of the right, egged the stub-shaft, broke all of the shear-pins in the LR, cracked and broke the coupler/driver/whatever on the passenger side.

Oh yeah, and broke a factory spring perch off the rear axle and bent the other one at the same time.

Cool, huh?

I sent them the parts in a small plastic bag.. and they sent me back a functional LR.

I was happy. :D

i don't want to sound like the bear'er of bad news
but thier a reason IMO that they call them Lunch box lockers
1. you intall them quickly like your lunch hour
2. You eat you lunch and then have to buy a new one

I have seen and herd TON's of these "lunchbox" locker blowing up, its worth the extra $ to get a full locker once then the cheapies a few times

also PSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSST Arb's :D
