BTW thanks for the help on the jeep. Of course I took the distributor out last night and turned it along with the plugs now it backfires out of the carb (again) and won't run LOL

I made sure it was TDC on #1 before I started too! Grrr. I added a manual choke and ran the PCV to the back of the intake.

Del, stop by the air tool store on auburn blvd, the guy there has some black in whites from 68 in EXCELLENT condition! I photocopied them but that is nothing like scanning them. My pics from that link are early 80's but nearl the same as 68 - the real effects have happened in the last 15 years..

I have a collection of old photos but most are photocopies, I would love to get better quality ones! I like to have nice pics made 11x17 or 5x8 and I put a small shot of me and my truck in the same location present day.

The pics on my web site are from my late uncle..

one of these days I will scan the photos of the con from the 70s my uncle has.. Its amazing how it has changed.

I look at it the other way. I see a trail that has been traveled by 10's of thousands and how little it has changed for the most part. Sure there are areas that people go that they didn't years ago but on the flipside there are lots of areas that people used to go back in the day and you wouldn't know if you didn't know. The two parts that have changed the most from my point of view is the little and big sluice and the rest has changed little excluding the whole Loon route.

look closer, I wish I can say that. When I look at the pictures from the 80's I see more trees than I could ever remember. Places like soup bowl and many bypasses were NOT there just 15 years ago

Granted I can't remember back 15 yrs but I know that roughly 10-12 yrs ago a buddy of ours being the first in our group to make it up soup.....think that one's been there a long time, just wasn't doable in a sua 32" tired rig.

You can take a picture of anything 20-30 years ago and things will look different...including yourself.
Yes, the rubicon has changed over the years...most notably Little sluice and Big sluice (I'm with Dean on this one). Big Sluice has changed over a period of time and Little Sluice has changed drastically over the past 10 years.
Most people are now building rigs far more capable than what the Rubicon has to offer. If you are bored because your rig is so Bad-Ass...I'm sorry, but please don't look for more challenging terrain.
Most everyone knows this has happened on Fordyce.

By the way the old Ruby pics are awesome. I would love to get my hands on a few of those pics for a trip I have planned for this summer (especially of cadillac and the springs). Also, anyone who is very knowlageble about the history of the rubicon and would like to volunteer for me this summer on July 12/13, please e-mail me. We will be taking a group of Disabled people into the springs and would like to give them some history on the trail.

That is a sweeeet pic of Studebakers on the con. From what I remember, Mr. Studebaker originally made wheelbarrows and sold them to the miners.

Call me stupid here, but am I the only one that doesn't know what you are talking about:confused:

Before you get to winch hill 3 or "the squeeze" you cross a rocky creek (it runs from left to right). Two years ago some morons drove up and down that creek. Now it has become common place for people to screw around on.
That creek is not part of the trail nor has it ever been.
This section is about 75 yards long and is off to your right (assuming you are going towards meadow lake).
Not only have I seen people on it... I have the video!

All I'm trying to say is that over the last 10 years people have become good fabricators and dumped a lot of money into their rigs. They become bored and look for more challenging obstacles. These people should try their luck and compete in a sactioned event.

ok I gotcha, know exactly the spot you are talking about.

I do agree that people are building rigs to a much higher standard now, but I think it is a little ignorant to make the assumption that just because you have a built rig means that you are not going to stay on the trail.

I DON'T think this is what you mean, but it seems that this belief is running rampant through some groups.:(

jbcruiser

No! No that is not what I meant at all. My rig is fairly built itself. Most all the rigs I wheel with are all very well built and "extreme".

RCKRATZ

Again, I didn't think that is what you meant

just getting a little frustrated/irritated with the groups who hold this view that's all:flipoff2:

There is no doubt in my mind that competition style serious rock buggies are becomming more and more popular. I just came back from Moab and there were tons of them there -- more so than i've ever seen.

But remember that this could be like the gun control argument -- guns don't kill people, people do. Well, rock buggies don't get off the trail, people do. :)

There are opinions on both sides, and yes, the new rock buggies can go places where most *regular* wheelers would not be able to go, it is still up to the driver to not jeopardize our trails by doing illegal or dumb things.

The Rubicon Overisght Committee and Friends of the Rubicon (FOTR) are supporting a serious increase in law enforcment on the trail this year. The CA OHV Commission does also. Most of their grant money now (green sticker and OHV Trust Fund) is going to law enforcement and conservation projects like we do in FOTR.

thanks, Del
