: CD Burner Questions..lots of them
SeaBass44 04-06-2003, 07:17 PM I just bought a CD burner off Ebay, new in box, not rebuilt, not a second ect:D...I have never had one before. Is there anywhere I can go to learn some hints, find out exactly what a CD-R,CD-W,CD-RW or whatever they are called means? I think I know but I am not 100% sure;), my buddy says he has hjad no trouble burning CD'd, yet they came out with anti burn tech on the latest ones, so people must have had problems. Also can you copy DVD's and play rthem back on your home DVD player on your TV, not your computer unit? If so is the $15 software adds I get all the time about that worth buying,or can I find this free on the net somewhere?
Also other then Kazza, where can I find music to download? Kazza Light never did work for me??? Kazza went haywire for me last time I tried, it tried to share every Image file ojn my computer, like 27,000 of them! WTF?
P.S....I mostly want to burn music CD's for my jeep, I have a 10 disk sony, and want to get music off the net & copy from other friends CD's
THANK YOU

Nero (http://www.nero.com/en/index.html)
animator 04-06-2003, 07:29 PM ok I'll try to get a start on some of your questions.
CD-R= cd recordable: you can record data or music on the cd only once. If you record data, you can go back and record more data on the cd until it is full. If you record music, you must close the cd in order for it to play, which means you can only do that once. Unless the music is in mp3 format, in which case it would be a data cd with mp3 files on it.
CD-RW= cd re-writable: you can record data or music on the cd, same as cd-r, but it gives you the option to "erase" this information. But since it is burned onto the cd, there is no way to actually erase the information, it is just a higher compressed format of cd, which allows so many re-writes.
DVD-R= same thing as a cd-r, except it can hold about 4.5 G of information. These can store data or music. They require a DVD burner to burn
Some cd roms, like games, have protection on them that prevents them from being copied. They can be copied, but will not work properly. I don't know about music though, I've never had any problems recording them. Sometimes it depends on the CD itself. My computer has certain brands of cd-r's that it does not like and will not play.
You can burn DVD movies onto dvd's but that requires software to do. You also need to have the room on your hard drive to contain the entire dvd information-usually 4 G. You can also create VCD's from a DVD, once again requiring a software. That usually takes a long time, and the quality is that of an mpeg video.
J-Dogg 04-06-2003, 07:29 PM SeaBass, your retard test was brutal.:D
As far as CD's too...
My friends and I tested 5 diff cd players and numerous cd brands and found that the Imation brand cd's played in everything...including way old home stereo units.
Some cd's of diff quality won't play on home stereo units or in some cd players, keep this in mind when u buy in cheap bulk :-p

That will teach you a very good leason, when anything like that "test" happens again, quickly hit "Ctrl/Alt/delete, that will stop the action, then just use "end task" that is what I did, so the "test" never got me:D
4x4extreme 04-06-2003, 08:57 PM I did the same thing
I think it is great because some would not know to do that
